History: A Saxon legation to the Kingdom of Prussia was established at the beginning of the 18th century. It continued to exist unchanged after Saxony's accession to the North German Confederation in 1867. The establishment of the German Reich in 1871 led to an increased importance of the Saxon legation in Berlin, since it took over the representation of Saxony's interests at the Reich. From 1920 to 1934, the Saxon envoy in Berlin also represented Saxony's military interests in the Reich. The legation was dissolved in 1936/1944.

For further information see 2.3.2 Foreign Affairs

Content: I. Representation of the State of Saxony to the Reich Government, 1935 - 1945

>Comprehensive Introduction: Like most other diplomatic representations of Saxony, the files of the legation in Berlin were kept on a serial and annual basis until 1866 (No. 131-209). However, the growth of the legation duties after the establishment of the North German Confederation required the division into titles and the drawing up of a file plan, which initially took place in 1867 for the so-called business affairs (No. 737-1131). Political reports continued to be kept on an annual basis (No 221-273). It was not until 1914 and 1918, respectively, that they were also divided up according to titles (no. 274-736).
Aside from this group of the actual "Gesandtschaftsangelegenheiten" (formerly Aktenplan G), another department had already entered in 1867: The registry of the authorised representative to the Federal Council (formerly Aktenplan B). In addition, there were those of the authorized representative of the Saxon Ministry of Finance to the Federal Council and the representative of military interests to the Reich (formerly Aktenplan E).
The reorganization carried out in the present directory is based on the principle that the greatest possible protection of the groups resulting from the establishment and operation of the authorities also means the best possible usability. Although the indicated division into "Departments" was not fully maintained later, i.e. especially after 1918, so that, for example, processes from the hand of the former military representative partly also appear under the section Military Affairs of the Federal and Reich Council Matters, the existing division has been retained, namely because only in this way the valuable aid of the registrants and registers to the registrants (No. 1-121) remains usable. The fact that files on the same subject matter now have to be searched more under different departments (e.g. Federal Council Plenipotentiary, Military Plenipotentiary, etc.) is taken into account by references. For a better overview a keyword index is attached. All names of places and persons are included in this list; subject matters only if they cannot be assumed under the respective heading.
Within the six large groups, shifts have been made to a greater extent. The 1867/70 file plan did not provide any space for a number of subject areas which did not become more important until after 1918; for this reason, new procedures are often provisionally classified under related subject areas (e.g. procedures of a socio-political nature under trade matters, housing care under medical affairs, etc.). Unevenness of this kind is eliminated by inserting new sections. The sections "War and post-war economy" and "Social legislation" have been completely restructured. The "Customs and Trade Contracts" as well as the "Authorized Representative of the Saxon Ministry of Finance to the Bundesrat" have also undergone a major rearrangement.
The files of the Berlin legation have mainly reached the Main State Archives at three different times. The older files (No. 131-209) were filed in 1881 (HStA Reg. 578/81), insofar as they had not previously been brought here in the form of smaller levies. They were removed from the locates during the reorganization and relocated. The second large delivery took place in August 1935 (HStA Reg. 444b/35) and comprised 226 packages. The third and last delivery took place in October 1936 (HStA Reg. 915/36). The entire consecutively numbered collection is stored in the magazine.

Dresden, 2 May 1939 Horst Schlechte

Nachbemerkung

>The find book compiled by Horst Schlechte and the find book on the archival records handed over to the Dresden State Archives by the Geheimes Staatsarchiv Preußischer Kulturbesitz in 1987 were retroconverted in 2012.
The following signatures are now missing from the 1939 existing files of the inventory:

No. 13, input and output registers, 1863
No. 14, Entry and Exit Registrands, 1864
No. 165, Reports, 1848
No. 184, Political Correspondence, 1858
No. 231, Political Reports or Affairs, Vol. 11, 1877
No. 232, Political Reports or Affairs, Vol. 12, 1878
No. 232, Political Reports or Affairs, Vol. 1878
No. 231, Political Reports or Affairs, Vol. 11, 1877
No. 232, Political Reports or Affairs, Vol. 12, 1878
No. 232, Political Reports or Affairs, Vol. 232, Political Reports or Affairs, Vol. 12, Vol. 245, Resignation of Reich Chancellor Bismarck, 1890
No. 589, Migration of the Swiss Embroidery Industry to Germany, 1919-1923
No. 590, Sneak Trade in French Sockets and Lace, 1919-1924
No. 597, Transitional Economy for the Leather Industry, Vol. 2, 1934
No. 589, Switzerland's Embroidery Industry to Germany, 1919-1923
No. 597, Transitional Economy for the Leather Industry, Vol. 2, 1934
No. 589 640, Economic Intelligence Service, Commercial Espionage, vol. 1, 1919-1921
no. 641, Economic Intelligence Service, Commercial Espionage, vol. 2, 1922-1933
no. 660, Treuhand GmbH for accommodation of the Dutch credit, 1920-1921
no. 685, Authorization of the Bundesrat to take economic measures for the transitional economy, 1918
No. 714-717, Restoration of the German merchant fleet, Vol. 1-4, 1917-1928
No. 718-719, Reedereiabfindungsvertrag, Vol. 1-2, 1921-1923
No. 720, Gesellschaft zur Förderung von Seeverkehr und Weltwirtschat, 1916-1920
No. 721, Sozialisierung der Industriebetriebe, 1918-1920
No. 722, Sozialisierungsgesetz, 1919-1920
No. 723, Kommunalisierung der Wirtschaftsbetriebe (Reichsrahmengesetz), 1919-1921
No. 724, Sozialisierung des Bergbaus, 1920
Nr. 760, Award of Titles and Predicates, vol. 1, 1879-1909
No. 761, Award of Titles and Predicates, vol. 2, 1910-1917
No. 856, Anschluss Deutsch-Österreichs an das Deutsche Reich, vol. 1
No. 947, Deutsche Siedlungsbank, 1930-1933
No. 1149, Requests for Naturalisation.
