Preface: The family archive Mörrath-Kölle was donated to the city archive Stuttgart in January 2007 by Mrs. Ruth Brinkmann with all rights. Only the family photo album remained in the possession of the family. But the city archive was allowed to scan the photos of the album. Scans/printouts on one side and the photos of the album on the other side can be owned and used independently of each other. The collection documents one generation of the Kölle family and three generations of the Mörrath family in Stuttgart David Kölle was Hofflaschnermeister in Villastraße in Berg. He and his wife Karoline had 14 children and 16 journeymen in the house. Later, on their mother's birthday, when her numerous descendants could not be seen, the children held a great feast. The Mörrath family lived in the house next to the Kölles in Berg. Friedrich Ludwig Mörrath (born 1850) was a master carpenter. He was also involved with the Red Cross and was the founder of the Stuttgart-Berg ambulance column. The neighbourly relationship led to the marriage of Friedrich Otto Mörrath (born 1880) and Auguste Maria Mörrath, née Kölle. Friedrich Ludwig Mörrath then moved with his family to Stuttgart-Ostheim, Kanonenweg 145. Friedrich Otto Mörrath, one of six siblings, wanted to study medicine. Since the economic conditions did not permit this, he became a carpenter like his father. He first went to South America as a ship's boy. As a soldier he was ordered to China in 1900 to fight the Boxer Uprising. He used this opportunity to study Chinese medicine intensively there (1901-1903). In Stuttgart he then founded a practice for naturopathy in which he successfully treated his patients with Chinese medicine (compare no. 17 patient letters (the Stuttgart internist Dr. Natorp, for example, had himself treated every year). In the Third Reich he still had to attend the now prescribed Heilpraktikerschule. The practice was founded in the house Schwarenbergstraße 64 where Friedrich Otto Mörrath lived since his marriage. After the death of his father he moved into his house in Stuttgart-Ostheim, Kanonenweg 145 (today Haußmannstraße 145). He had paid off his siblings as an heir, which led to quarrels. Friedrich Otto Mörrath was a member of the Fastnachts-Gesellschaft Möbelwagen, an association which at that time had devoted itself primarily to social and charitable goals in addition to socializing. Friedrich Otto Mörrath died in 1944. Paula Frida Auguste Mörrath (born 1906), the daughter of Friedrich Otto and Auguste Maria Mörrath, met Hugo Janko (born 1885) from Berlin at an invitation in the house of Richard and Emmi Maul. Paula Mörrath and Hugo Janko first began a secret correspondence about the address of Richard and Emmi Maul. In 1924 was celebrated engagement, 1925 wedding. The correspondence between the two does not only provide information about the relationship between fiancées and later spouses. Rather, Hugo Janko also reflected on the question of whether he could marry his bride and entertain her in a befitting manner due to the age difference and the difficult economic situation in Germany. After the marriage Paula Janko followed her husband to Berlin, the residence of the family. The family archive Mörrath-Kölle contains 20 cm files, 10 cm appendix and more than 80 photos/scans. It was recorded by B. Neidiger with the assistance of C. Mack in February 2007. Related persons for the family details are Ruth Pauline Brinkmann née Janko and her sister Erika Maria Janko, the daughters of Hugo Janko and his wife Paula, née Mörrath. Explanation: When the North German Confederation was founded, the postal system was organised as a unified state transport authority with the simultaneous disappearance of the territorial postal institutions. Bremen received a federal post office. In 1871, postal sovereignty was transferred to the German Reich. In 1874, the Reichspostverwaltung appointed Bremen as the seat of an Oberpostdirektion, which became the medium Reichspostbehörde. In addition to the territory of Bremen, its area of responsibility included the part of the administrative district of Hanover on the left bank of the Weser, parts of the administrative district of Stade and the administrative district of Thedinghausen in Brunswick. Until the First World War she was also responsible for the postal services in German New Guinea, on the Caroline Islands, Mariana Islands, Palau and Marshall Islands and Samoa. From 1934-1945 the Oberpostdirektion was called Reichspostdirektion Bremen. In 1943 it also took over the district of the Oldenburg management, which had until then been independent, and which included the Weser-Ems district. The privatization of Deutsche Bundespost was initiated in 1989, and in 1990 it was separated into the postal service and telecommunications divisions at OPD. At the end of 1992, the Postal Directorate was divided into the Postal Service and Telecommunications Directorates. Since 1995 they have been part of Deutsche Post AG and Deutsche Telekom AG. Die Serie enthält Namen und Fotos von Personen in australischen Internierungslagern.The photograph album is a linen and leather bound volume containing ruled alphabetical thumb index pages (not used) and 654 numbered pages, of which all but the last ten contain photographs of individual internees, mounted in three rows of three. The internees were photographed side by side in small groups, facing the camera, from the elbows up, after which the photograph was cut into 6x8cm square sections showing one internee each. Included in most photograph sections is a printed number either held by or fastened to the internee, while in the remaining cases the number has been inscribed on the photograph. The photographs are mounted in numerical order. Over 300 missing individual photographs are represented by pencilled numbers, others by a reference to a double exposure on another page. Photographs 2858 and 3824 have been ruined by light and movement, internee no. 5368 is photographed in bed, and pages 484, 485 and 488 show bound internees being held by guards.The index comprises 103 type-written folios stapled together. The title page has 'Register of Personal Photographs. Part I. Index' followed by notes on arrangement. Entries are in three columns headed 'Number', 'Surname' (surnames are in upper case letters), 'Christian-name' (lower case).Arrangement is by initial letter of surname, then by photograph number, with some entries out of numerical order at the end of each letter. The second and later folios for each letter are numbered 2, 3 etc. The names are overwhelmingly German, with a large number of Slavonic names.It is believed that the photographs of this series were taken by soldiers of the 2 Military District, Commonwealth Military Forces as part of the administration of the Liverpool Camp, NSW for internees during World War I. It is unknown what the initial purpose of the photographs was, it has been suggested that the photographs were taken so that port authorities could be alerted in the event of a camp break-out. This may be possible, however, the extant photograph albums suggest that the photograph albums were collated much later by a central office. It may be possible that the album in CRS D3597 was created using the original photographs, and duplicates for the other albums were made from the glass plate negatives.It appears that between the time the original photographs were made and the time the photograph albums were created, several of the glass plate negatives were broken, which accounts for the missing photographs in the albums (CRS P1, CRS K565, SP421/4), which frequently occur in runs of three photographs (the number of photographs which fitted onto a glass plate negative). After the Liverpool Camp was closed in 1919, the records of the camp were transferred to the Chief of General Staff, Army Headquarters, Melbourne (see file A367 item C18000 PT 1). It is believed that the photographs, or their negatives, were later transferred to the Investigation Branch of the Attorney General's Department (CA 747), to assist them in the administration of the Immigration Act 1920 (although it is not clear when the records were transferred). It is believed that the photograph albums were collated by the Investigation Branch at this point and sent to the Collectors of Customs in each State.

The estate of the Prussian Minister of Culture Carl Heinrich Becker was given to the Secret State Archives in 1973 by his son Prof. Dr. Hellmut Becker as a deposit. The estate consists of two main groups, 1. correspondence and 2. factual documents. Business and factual correspondence were not separated, as the transitions were fluid and difficult to distinguish in individual cases. Associations, authorities, etc. are listed in the correspondence as correspondence partners and in the subject groups with writings, publications and statutes. In the case of factual files, a detailed division into individual subject groups was made. These are Carl Heinrich Becker's notes on official matters as well as Becker's publications and works as professor of Oriental Studies. The collection was edited by Dr. Cécile Lowenthal-Hensel, Heidemarie Nowak, Sabine Preuß and Elke Prinz. The technical writing work was done by Petra Bergert.
