Archival history

The collection "German Documents on the First World War" (inventory 500, find book 12519) was transferred to the Central Archives of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation (CAMO) between 1953 and 1961 by the military-scientific administration of the Soviet Ministry of Defence and the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the USSR.The collection comprises 36,000 sheets from files of the Great General Staff, the Supreme Army Command, the staffs of various command levels, troops and units, the Prussian War Ministry, the Reich Interior Ministry, the Foreign Office and other authorities. The majority of the files consist of war diaries and battle reports (84 file units), maps and schematic sketches (146 file units), personnel files of military personnel (85 file units) as well as other documents relating to personnel, including financial documents (29 file units). In addition, the collection of the CAMO Collection on the First World War contains lists of units, overviews and overviews of the formation and deployment of troops, the supply of field artillery with ammunition during the Verdun battles, the use of warfare agents, propaganda war material, reports on military reconnaissance and the General Staff of the 6th Ottoman Army, material on the domestic and foreign political situation of the German Reich, and information on sunk and damaged ships.
