Archival history

History of the Inventory Designer: The Office for Foreign Assets (DfA) centrally managed the registrations in accordance with Act No. 53 of the MilReg, advised the owners and participated in the release of German assets. Documents provided by Sweden on German assets in Sweden as well as documents on confiscated or liquidated German assets abroad were further bases of their work.

Description of the Portfolio: Portfolio History
The applications (MGAX forms) to be submitted pursuant to Act No. 53 of the MilReg. of all German assets and obligations located abroad were initially administered by the Finance Division (OMGUS, Z 45 F), for Berlin (West) by the Finance Department of the Allied Kommandantur. In November 1948, the MGAX forms that had accrued in the American zone were taken to Frankfurt/Main, where they were initially handed over to the Allied Banking Commission in the Bank deutscher Länder. A registration office for foreign assets (Büro Bohleke) was set up at the Bank deutscher Länder for the purpose of evaluation. The applications received in the British and French occupation zones as well as in the British and French sectors of Berlin were subsequently also processed by the Bohleke office. With effect from 1 April 1950, the Notification Authority for Foreign Assets was taken over by the Federal Ministry of Finance under the name "Der Bundesminister der Finanzen, Dienststelle für Auslandsvermögen" (DfA). As an office for foreign assets (DfA), it was assigned in 1951 to the foreign exchange control office of the Oberfinanzdirektion Frankfurt/Main, from April 1954 to the Oberfinanzdirektion Köln, and with effect from 1 October 1955 to the local customs and excise tax department/group for foreign exchange control. With the decree of 19 September 1972, the DfA was dissolved and the execution of the previous tasks was transferred to the Oberfinanzdirektion Köln.
Archivische Bewertung und Bearbeitung
Only the MGAX registration forms for assets over 500,000 RM located abroad were transferred to the Federal Archives (Zug.Nr.I 99/1977). In addition to the individual cases, which had already been sorted alphabetically by the Office for Foreign Assets and occasionally also contained copies of company documents before 1945, there are also 4 volumes on the organisation of the Office.
The holdings were newly recorded in 2014/2015 and now comprise 8 units for the administration of the Office and 1280 units for individual cases.

Content characterization: Office administration (1949-1977, 4); registration forms for assets and liabilities located abroad in excess of 500,000 RM (-MGAX registration forms), selection of approx. 1500-2000 alphabetically by company name (1945-1962 (-1977), 161). Note: Occasionally also copies of company documents from the period before 1945.

Pre-archival order: Registrations in alphabetical order.

Capacity, Explanation: 1288 AE

Citation method: BArch B 218/...
