      Diese Fotografie zeigt einen uniformierten Mitarbeiter des Postamts Swakopmund mit einem weiteren nicht uniformierten Einheimischen, der Postsäcke über der Schulter trägt. Swakopmund war Teil der Kolonie Deutsch-Südwestafrika, die das Deutsche Reich von 1884 bis 1915 auf dem Gebiet des heutigen Staates Namibia unterhielt. Swakopmund war der wichtigste Hafen für Einwanderer aus Deutschland. Das Postamt in Swakopmund wurde am 30. Mai 1895 eröffnet. Der Telegrafenbetrieb begann am 13.4.1899, der Fernsprechbetrieb am 1.10.1901. 1907 erfolgte dann der Umzug in ein neues Gebäude.
