Inhalt und Sonstiges: Als zweiter Sohn des Fürsten Ernst trat Hermann nach seinem Jurastudium in Berlin eine militärische Laufbahn an. 1860 übernahm er infolge der morganatischen Ehe seines älteren Bruders die Standesherrschaft. Nach seiner aktiven Teilnahme am deutsch-französischen Krieg gehörte Hermann von 1871 bis 1881 als Mitglied der Deutschen Partei bzw. der Reichspartei dem Reichstag an. Er war entschiedener Befürworter des Bismarck-Reiches. Nach seiner Wahlniederlage 1871 konzentrierte sich sein Interesse auf die Kolonialpolitik. Er war einer der Initiatoren der Gründung des Deutschen Kolonialvereins. Für den Kolonialverein übernahm er verschiedene Funktionen. 1894 bis 1907 war er als Nachfolger Chlodwigs zu H.-Schillingsfürst Statthalter in Elsaß-Lothringen. Gliederung: A.
