In October 1810 special customs courts had been established in Mainz, Cologne and Wesel by imperial decree. The Higher Court for appeals against judgments of Cologne and Mainz was in Nancy, for Wesel in Valenciennes (Bär, Behördengeschichte p. 56). Preliminary remark 1: The classification has been changed to a purely numerical classification for retroconversion. The classification in the table of contents differs from the classification in the units of registration. The classification has been adopted within the index part units of description. Since the stock has received comparatively little attention in research so far, the old signatures have not been included. It may be necessary to look up the old finding aid book, which is part of the inventory. 2) The former item 19 (old Findbuch, p.359ff.): Courts in Düsseldorf (Kassationshof, Appellationshof, Kriminalgerichtshof, Kreisgericht (Tribunal 1. Instanz), Notariatskammern and Friedensgericht Ratingen) - except for one file of the Kreisgericht Düsseldorf (see under 16.1.) - were transferred to the Zweigarchiv Kalkum (old Findbuch, note p.1 by Mrs. Dr. Joester of 28.8. 1974). 3. there is as unlisted remainder a cardboard box at the end of storage of the inventory ("misdirected" from files of the Generalgouvernement). They must be placed elsewhere or a separate title must be created. A folder is pre-identified. The files of the former district courts of Barmen, Elberfeld, Ronsdorf and today's district court of Wuppertal were largely recorded by temporary workers. It was not always possible for them to assign the files to a specific district court, especially as the files continued at the later Wuppertal district court were usually given a new file number. In the following compilation, therefore, the register files were simply listed in the sequence of numbers. The files of the former district courts of Barmen, Elberfeld, Ronsdorf and today's district court of Wuppertal were largely recorded by temporary staff. It was not always possible for them to assign the files to a specific district court, especially as the files continued at the later Wuppertal district court were usually given a new file number. In the following compilation, therefore, the register files were simply listed in the sequence of numbers. In individual cases, this can result in a file number appearing more than once, but in most cases this is linked to the identification number for the former local court.

During the transfer of the House of Ehreshoven to the cooperative of the Rhenish knightly nobility in 1920/24, the archive of the Counts of Nesselrode was brought to Velen and from there it was loaned to the State Archives. It was purchased in 1954. More than half of the files (numbers 1-600 and the group "Landesarchiv", see Findbuch 110.22.03) were on the barge "Main 68", which sank in March 1945 in the Mittellandkanal (cf. F.W. Oediger, Das Staatsarchiv Düsseldorf und seine Bestände Bd. 1, p. 43). So far not all pieces could be restored.
