            1st biographies: The GU 119 holdings essentially comprise documents from the estate of the Wiltrud Princess of Bavaria, Duchess of Urach. The collection also includes partial estates and fragments of estates of relatives of Princess Wiltrud, especially from the House of Bavaria (Wittelsbach). Specifically, these are the estate documents of the parents of Princess Wiltrud, King Ludwig III and Queen Marie Therese of Bavaria (née Archduchess of Austria-Este Princess Modena), Aunt Wiltrud, Princess Therese of Bavaria, and the grandparents of Wiltrud, Luitpold Prinzregent and Auguste Ferdinande Princess of Bavaria (née Archduchess of Austria-Tuscany). In the following, the biographies of the personalities represented in the GU 119 inventory, of whom there are partial estates, are briefly discussed. 1.1 Wiltrud Duchess of Urach (née Princess of Bavaria)Wiltrud Marie Alix Princess of Bavaria was born on 10 November 1884 in Munich as the tenth of thirteen children of Ludwig Prince of Bavaria, later Prince Regent and King Ludwig III of Bavaria, and Marie Therese Princess of Bavaria. Only a few documents on the childhood and youth of Princess Wiltrud can be found in the present inventory (subcategory 1.1.1), so that only little information can be given about this period. Accordingly, Princess Wiltrud and her siblings were taught by house teachers. The mother Princess Marie Therese also took care of the upbringing of the children and until Prince Ludwig took office she had hardly any representative duties to fulfil. Prince Ludwig's family lived mainly in Schloss Leutstetten near Lake Starnberg. A large estate belonged to Leutstetten Castle, which belonged to Prince Ludwig's private estate and which he developed into an agricultural model estate. When Prince Ludwig succeeded Prince Regent Luitpold after the death of his father Prince Regent Luitpold in 1912, his wife Princess Marie Therese and his daughter Princess Wiltrud also had to take on more and more representative tasks, about which the information in the present holdings in the category 1.During the First World War Princess Wiltrud supported her mother in her extensive charitable activities. Together with her mother, her sisters and their court ladies she packed gift packages (so-called "Liebesgaben") for the Bavarian soldiers, non-commissioned officers and officers at the front, in which ham, chocolate, canned goods and partly also laundry were packed (cf. subcategories 1.9.1 and 1.9.2). Friends of the royal family from Sárvár (Hungary), where Queen Marie Therese owned a large estate, and from Sulden (South Tyrol), where the royal family often went on mountain tours, also benefited from these gift packages. The recipients of these coveted "gifts of love" often thanked Princess Wiltrud with field letters, sometimes extensive reports on war events and photographs of the front and the occupied territories. These partly quite descriptive materials have been preserved in subcategories 1.9.2 and 1.9.3 of the present inventory. In addition, Princess Wiltrud and her mother visited hospitals and hospitals and gave comfort to the soldiers and officers of the Bavarian army who were lying there. Finally, Princess Wiltrud also worked temporarily in the "war sewing room" set up by her mother in the Nibelungensälen of the Munich Residenz, where 600 to 800 seamstresses and knitters worked. The "Kriegsnähstube" provided the Bavarian troops moving into the field with laundry quickly and unbureaucratically. When in November 1918 the social democratic politician Kurt Eisner proclaimed the republic in Munich, the royal family left Munich and initially withdrew to Schloss Wildenwart. The end of the monarchy in Bavaria was a decisive turning point for Princess Wiltrud and the other members of the House of Bavaria. Princess Wiltrud, like all representatives of the German princely houses, lost her privileges. Princess Wiltrud first lived at Wildenwart Castle until her marriage and on 25 November 1924 Wiltrud Princess of Bavaria married Wilhelm (II) Duke of Urach in Munich. On the following day the church wedding took place, also in Munich. The marriage remained childless. After her marriage, Duchess Wiltrud lived alternately at Schloss Lichtenstein and Palais Urach in Stuttgart. When her husband died in 1928, Duchess Wiltrud also took over the care of the youngest children of Wilhelm (II.) Duke of Urach from his marriage to Amalie Herzogin von Urach (née Duchess of Bavaria). In the 1930s, Duchess Wiltrud moved to the former royal hunting lodge in Oberstdorf, which she had inherited from her father's estate and which she had renovated especially for this purpose. At times Duchess Wiltrud also visited Schloss Lichtenstein and Schloss Wildenwart. Duchess Wiltrud showed an interest in music, fine arts, history and botany, which can be seen in the printed matter and materials preserved in this collection. In addition, she undertook several voyages, including a longer voyage by ship on the "Monte Rosa" in 1935 to Brazil, Senegal and Morocco. From 1901 to 1903 she travelled the Balkans with her mother and younger sisters. During this time she also made a boat trip on the Adriatic with her mother, her younger sisters and Karl Stephan Archduke of Austria, about which she also wrote a travel diary, which was published in excerpts in a magazine. A copy of this journal can be found in Bü 719. She also wrote articles about a trip to the Arlberg (Austria) in magazines (Bü 719). In addition, she frequently travelled to visit her stepchildren, her siblings and their families, and the other relatives, which is not least reflected in the extensive correspondence preserved in this collection. In addition to the aforementioned travel descriptions, Duchess Wiltrud also published poems in magazines and calendars under her name (Bü 842). Like many members of the House of Bavaria, Duchess Wiltrud was deeply religious and had received a strictly Catholic education. The Duchess also maintained close contact with Catholic clergy and nuns, as can be seen from her correspondence with them (especially Bü 249 and 250). Not least the memberships of Duchess Wiltrud in religious associations, brotherhoods and congregations, which are documented in Bü 731, and the multitude of religious publications and the collection of material in the sub-categories 1.11.1 and 1.18.3 bear witness to the religiousness of the Duchess.Wiltrud Princess of Bavaria died on 28 March 1975 in Oberstdorf. She was buried in the cemetery of Großengstingen near Reutlingen. 1.2 Therese Princess of BavariaTherese Charlotte Marianne Auguste Princess of Bavaria was born on 12 November 1850 as the third of four children and sole daughter of Luitpold Prince of Bavaria, later to become Prince Regent of Bavaria, and Auguste Ferdinande Princess of Bavaria (née Archduchess of Austria-Tuscany).Together with her brothers Ludwig, who was later to rule Bavaria as Prince Regent and King Ludwig III, Leopold and Arnulf, she was taught by her mother and not by house teachers, as was customary in princely houses at the time. As an adult, she spoke twelve languages. In addition to her talent for languages, the princess developed a keen interest in the natural sciences and the geography and culture of foreign countries at an early age. Since she was denied university studies as a woman, Princess Therese acquired her extensive scientific knowledge through self-study. The princess acquired considerable expertise in geography, ethnology, botany and zoology - especially ornithology (ornithology) - and Princess Therese began her extensive travels as a young woman. Together with her brother Prince Leopold and his wife Gisela Princess of Bavaria (née Archduchess of Austria) she travelled North Africa, Spain, Portugal and France. Princess Therese almost always travelled incognito, often under the name of a "Countess Elpen", and with a small entourage. In 1898 she undertook an expedition of several months to South America, from which she brought a rich collection of zoological, botanical and ethnological material, including over 200 species of fish. These collections were later bequeathed to the Zoologische Staatssammlung München and the Münchner Völkerkundemuseum. Unfortunately, the collections were almost completely destroyed during the Second World War. Princess Therese discovered on her travels also previously unknown animal species, such as the catfish in Colombia, a longhorn beetle in Ecuador and a singing chirp in Trinidad. On her travels to South America, she also explored several Indian tribes in the Amazon region that were unknown to date in European scientific circles. In 1893 Princess Therese travelled North America, where she was particularly interested in the Plains Indians. In addition to ethnological and zoological studies, the princess also conducted botanical studies on her travels. The plants discovered by her in the process found their way into botanical literature with the addition of the name "theresiae". Princess Therese published scientific treatises and travelogues about her numerous journeys: In 1880 the article "A trip to Tunis" about her trip to North Africa was published. The experiences of her trip to Russia were included in the treatise "Travel Impressions and Sketches from Russia", which was published in 1895. The impressions of Princess Therese's travels to Central and South America were processed in the publications "On Mexican Lakes", "My Trip to the Brazilian Tropics", "On the Purpose and Editions of My Trip to South America in 1898", "Writings on a Trip to South America", "On a Trip to the West Indies and South America", "Some Words on Cultural Development in Pre-Spanish Peru" and "Travel Studies from Western South America", published between 1895 and 1908. About the Pueblo Indians she wrote in 1902 the essay "Einiges über die Pueblo-Indianer". Princess Therese published her first essays on her travels under the pseudonym "Th of Bavaria" in order to prevent her a priori being denied recognition as a woman by male experts. In addition to these publications, Princess Therese also documented her travels with the help of the then newly invented roll-film camera, of which only the most important were given to Princess Therese in the course of her life: On December 9, 1897, the princess was the first woman to receive an honorary doctorate from the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Munich "for her excellent knowledge of the natural sciences, proven by excellent books" ("propter insignem rerum naturalium scientiam praeclaris libris comprobatam"). In 1892 she became an honorary member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and the Geographic Society in Munich. In 1897 Princess Therese became a corresponding member of the Geographic Society in Lisbon and in 1898 an honorary member of the Geographic Society in Vienna. In 1908 Princess Therese received the Austro-Hungarian Medal of Honor for Science and Art. One year later she was awarded the title of "Officier de l'Instruction publique" by the French Ministry of Education. At the same time, Princess Therese became an honorary member of the Société des Américanistes de Paris, and after the death of her father, Prince Regent Luitpold, the Princess gave up her long journeys and dedicated herself to charitable and social projects and institutions for which she took over the protectorate. At the beginning of the First World War, she set up a hospital for the wounded in her "Villa Amsee" in Lindau. Pictures of this military hospital are available in Bü 986 and 1166 of this collection. Princess Therese, who was abbess of the Damenstift St. Anna in Munich, remained unmarried throughout her life. According to the relevant specialist literature, the princess fell in love at a young age with her cousin Prince Otto, who later became Otto König von Bayern, but who suffered from a mental illness and was therefore out of the question for marriage. Still in later years Princess Therese was interested in the state of health of her cousin King Otto, as the correspondence with Philipp Freiherr von Redwitz and Georg Freiherr von Stengel, the court marshals of King Otto, which is preserved in this collection, proves about the state of health of the king (subcategory 2.1.1.2, Bü 1105, 1107 and 1149). Princess Therese died on 19 September 1925 in Munich. She was buried in the Theatinerkirche in Munich. Princess Therese is remembered in Bavaria today by the "Therese-von-Bayern-Stiftung", founded in 1997 to promote women in science. The foundation supports habilitations and scientific projects of young academics and regularly awards the "Therese-von-Bayern-Preis". In 1997 a television documentary entitled "Princess Therese of Bavaria - Researcher, Collector, World Traveler" about the Princess was produced. Furthermore, in the same year H. Bußmann and E. Neukum-Fichtner the publication ""Ich bleiben ein Wesen eigener Art" - Princess Therese of Bavaria. Ludwig III, King of Bavaria-Ludwig Prince of Bavaria, the later King Ludwig III, was born in Munich on 7 January 1845 as the son of Luitpold Prince of Bavaria, the later Prince Regent, and Auguste Ferdinande Princess of Bavaria (née Archduchess of Austria-Tuscany), who was educated by house teachers, including the clergyman Karl Rinecker. From 1864 to 1865, the Prince studied philosophy, history, law, economics and art history at the University of Munich, without however obtaining a degree in the individual subjects. In the war of 1866 Ludwig served as lieutenant and orderly officer of his father Prince Luitpold. As the son of a subsequent prince, Prince Ludwig initially had no prospect of the Bavarian royal crown, since it passed to King Ludwig II and King Otto, the sons of Ludwig's uncle King Maximilian II and thus cousins of Prince Ludwig. Instead, however, Ludwig was entitled to the Greek royal throne because Ludwig's uncle Otto had no descendants. However, when King Otto had to leave Greece in 1862 due to a military revolt, Ludwig lost his prospects for the Greek royal throne, and on 20 February 1868 Prince Louis of Bavaria Marie Therese married Archduchess of Austria-Este Princess of Modena in Vienna. Prince Ludwig showed great interest in agriculture, veterinary medicine and technology. In 1868 he became Honorary President of the Central Committee of the Agricultural Association of Bavaria. The Leutstetten estate on Lake Starnberg, which he acquired in 1875, was converted by Ludwig into a model agricultural estate, which earned him the nickname "Millibauer" among the population. Finally, Prince Ludwig supported the expansion of the Rhine-Main-Danube Canal and the Bavarian Canal Association. Prince Ludwig was politically active in the Catholic Conservative Patriotic Party, the later Centre Party, for which he ran unsuccessfully in the 1871 Reichstag elections. In addition, the Prince was a member of the Reich Council, where he stood up for Bavarian interests and emphasized the interests of the individual states vis-à-vis the Reich. In the Imperial Council, Prince Ludwig also spoke out in favour of direct relative majority voting, which earned him great praise from August Bebel. Bebel said that if in Germany the Emperor were elected by the people from one of the ruling princely houses, then Prince Ludwig would have the best prospects of becoming German Emperor. In the years after 1900 Ludwig also frequently performed representational duties for his father Prinzregent Luitpold. When Prince Regent Luitpold died in 1912, Prince Ludwig succeeded him as Prince Regent of Bavaria in December. Right at the beginning of Prince Ludwig's reign, there were discussions in Bavaria about the royal question. The Centre Party and the Bavarian Prime Minister Georg von Hertling spoke out in favour of transforming the regency into a royalty and thus in favour of deposing Otto, who was a minor due to mental illness. After hard political conflicts and a constitutional amendment, Otto König von Bayern was finally declared deposed, and Prince Regent Ludwig was able to ascend the Bavarian throne as King Ludwig III on 5 November 1913. During the First World War, Ludwig III was commander-in-chief of the Bavarian troops and from 1915 also Prussian Field Marshal, the latter function being limited exclusively to representative tasks. At the beginning of the war Ludwig hoped to be able to extend the Bavarian Palatinate by parts of Alsace. On November 2, 1918, Ludwig announced the establishment of a parliamentary system of government in Bavaria. However, Ludwig could no longer install a new state government with the participation of the majority Social Democrats (MSPD), as he had already been dismissed by the Social Democratic politician Kurt Eisner on November 7, 1918. From Wildenwart Castle he went to Anif Castle near Salzburg, where he issued a declaration on 13 November exempting the officials, officers and soldiers in Bavaria from the oath of allegiance. King Ludwig III continued to refuse to abdicate formally and to renounce his claims to the throne, living temporarily in Austria, Liechtenstein, Switzerland and Wildenwart Castle after the introduction of the republic in Bavaria. The king also stayed in Sárvár (Hungary), where he died on 18 October 1921. Ludwig III and his wife Marie Therese Queen of Bavaria, who had already died on February 3, 1919, found their final resting place in the Cathedral of Our Lady of Munich. The eulogy at the funeral ceremony on November 5, 1921, was given by Cardinal Michael von Faulhaber, Archbishop of Munich-Freising. A printed version of the speech can be found in Bü 839 of this collection; illustrations of the funeral are available in Bü 934 and 1170. Ludwig's heart was buried in the Chapel of Grace in Altötting, in accordance with the tradition of the Bavarian royal house (cf. the illustrations in Bü 1087). 1.4 Marie Therese Princess of Bavaria (née Archduchess of Austria-Este Princess of Modena)Marie (Maria) Therese Henriette Dorothea Archduchess of Austria-Este Princess of Modena was born on the 2nd of January in Modena. Born in July 1849 in Brno as the only child of Ferdinand Archduke of Austria-Este Prince of Modena and Elisabeth Archduchess of Austria-Este Princess of Modena (née Archduchess of Austria), her father died of typhoid fever in Brno on 15 December 1849, just a few months after Marie Therese's birth. Marie Therese's mother married Karl Ferdinand Archduke of Austria in 1854. This marriage produced six children, four of whom reached adulthood. In detail these are: Friedrich Erzherzog von Österreich Herzog von Teschen (1856-1936), Karl Stephan Erzherzog von Österreich (1860-1933), Imperial and Royal Admiral, Eugen Erzherzog von Österreich (1863-1954), High and German Master of the Teutonic Order and Imperial and Royal Field Marshal, and the daughter Maria Christina Erzherzogin von Österreich (1858-1929). The latter married Alfonso XII in 1879. Archduchess Marie Therese was descended from the House of Austria-Este, a line of the House of Austria that ruled the duchies of Modena and Guastalla in Upper Italy until their incorporation into the Kingdom of Italy in 1859. Marie Therese had inherited on her father's side the throne claims of the Stuarts to the English throne through the houses of Savoy and Orléans, which is why she was the legitimate queen of Scotland for the Stuart followers and legitimists as Mary III and the legitimate queen of England, France and Ireland as Mary IV. Of course Marie Therese's claims to the throne on the English, French, Scottish and Irish royal dignity were never claimed by her. Archduchess Marie Therese was educated strictly Catholic and received instruction from house teachers. At the funeral ceremonies for the late Mathilde Archduchess of Austria in 1867, she met Ludwig Prinz of Bavaria, with whom she immediately fell in love. The Archduchess succeeded in marrying Prince Ludwig against the resistance of her family and, above all, her uncle Franz V. Duke of Modena Archduke of Austria-Este. Marie Therese originally wanted to marry Ferdinand (IV), titular Grand Duke of Tuscany, Archduke of Austria-Tuscany, who was the son of Grand Duke Leopold II of Tuscany, who went into exile in 1859 and lived in exile in Austria and Bohemia. The wedding of Archduchess Marie Therese and Ludwig Prince of Bavaria took place on 20 February 1868 in Vienna. The marriage produced a total of thirteen children, ten of whom reached adulthood. Princess Marie Therese took care of the education of her children. Since she hardly had to fulfil any representation duties in the first years of her marriage, there was enough time for her to do so. Princess Marie Therese devoted herself to social charitable tasks. Since 1889 she headed the Bavarian Red Cross. In this function she also visited Henri Dunant, the founder of the Red Cross (see Bü 584). During the First World War she set up - as already mentioned - a so-called "war sewing room" in the Nibelungensälen of the Munich Residenz, which quickly and unbureaucratically provided the soldiers at the front with laundry. In Leutstetten she set up a so-called Alpinum, in which she almost completely assembled the alpine flora. Princess Marie Therese was also an enthusiastic hobby artist and Marie Therese Queen of Bavaria died at Wildenwart Castle on 3 February 1919. She was first buried in the castle chapel at Schloss Wildenwart. After the death of her husband, her remains were buried together with those of her husband on 5 November 1921 in the Cathedral of Our Lady in Munich. 1.5 Luitpold Prinzregent von BayernLuitpold Prinz von Bayern, the later Prinzregent von Bayern, was born in Würzburg on 12 March 1821 as the son of Ludwig Prinz von Bayern, the later King Ludwig I of Bavaria, and Therese Prinzessin von Bayern (née Prinzessin von Sachsen-Hildburghausen), the later Queen of Bavaria, who was taught by renowned personalities and tutors. The most notable are the theologian Georg von Oettl, who was a pupil of Johann Michael Sailer and later became Bishop of Eichstätt, the painter Domenico Quaglio, the natural philosopher Gotthilf Heinrich von Schubert, the philosopher George Philipps and the national economist Friedrich Benedikt von Hermann. The prince had a military career since 1835. Already in 1848 he was promoted to lieutenant general. In 1856 he was appointed commander of the 1st division. From 1861 Luitpold was field witness for the army inspection. He took part in the 1866 war as commander of the 3rd division. In the years after 1866 he was entrusted with the reorganization of the Bavarian military on the model of Prussia. In the war of 1870/71 the prince was detached as a representative of Bavaria to the Great Headquarters. In 1876 Prince Luitpold was appointed Fieldmaster General in the rank of Field Marshal General. Politically Luitpold was in the years before 1866 on the side of the Greater Germans and for a rapprochement to Austria. 10 June 1886 took over Prince Luitpold first the regency for his nephew Ludwig II King of Bavaria, who had been declared mentally ill and unable to govern. After the death of King Ludwig, Luitpold took over the regency for his mentally ill nephew Otto König von Bayern, the brother of King Ludwig II. Although the population was initially reserved towards Luitpold, the Prince Regent soon won the affection of large parts of the Bavarian people. Prince Regent Luitpold ruled strictly constitutionally. Luitpold's reign was retrospectively glorified by his contemporaries as the "Prinzregenten period", which was characterized by economic upswing, an improvement in living conditions and, above all, cultural prosperity. The latter in particular is inseparably linked with the Prinzregenten period. Under Luitpolds regency, Munich developed into a cultural centre in Germany. "Luitpold Prinzregent von Bayern died on 12 December 1912 in Munich. He was buried in the Theatinerkirche in Munich. 1.6 Auguste Ferdinande Princess of Bavaria (née Archduchess of Austria-Tuscany)Auguste Ferdinande Archduchess of Austria-Tuscany was born on 1 April 1825 in Florence as the daughter of Leopold II. Grand Duke of Tuscany and Maria Anna Grand Duchess of Tuscany (née Princess of Saxony), she married Luitpold Prince of Bavaria on 15 April 1844 in Florence. The marriage produced the sons Ludwig, the later King Ludwig III, Leopold, later Field Marshal, and Arnulf, later Colonel General, and the explorer Princess Therese, the deeply religious Princess Auguste Ferdinande who, together with the house teachers, took care of the strict Catholic education of her children. Princess Auguste Ferdinande showed great interest in the arts - she had a talent for drawing - and in history. Princess Auguste Ferdinande died on 26 April 1864 in Munich. She was buried in the Theatinerkirche in Munich. 2. on the content, order and distortion of the holdings: As mentioned above, the GU 119 holdings include several partial estates of members of the House of Bavaria. By far the largest and most extensive partial legacy is that of the Wiltrud Duchess of Urach, née Princess of Bavaria (category 1). In the following, the contents of the estate of the Duchess Wiltrud will be discussed in more detail.2.1 Estate of Wiltrud Duchess von Urach (née Prinzessin von Bayern)The most extensive part of the estate of the Duchess Wiltrud in the inventory GU 119, apart from the photographs, is the correspondence of the Duchess Wiltrud (section 1.2). Within the correspondence, the letters of relatives of Wiltrud and her husband represent an important and large group. Section 1.2 begins with letters from members of the House of Bavaria (Wittelsbach) to Princess Wiltrud (sub-section 1.2.1). Above all, the letters of her parents Ludwig III King and Marie Therese Queen of Bavaria are to be mentioned here (subcategory 1.2.1.1.1). The correspondence with Wiltrud's siblings and their families must also be mentioned here: in detail, these are letters from Rupprecht Crown Prince of Bavaria, from the princes Karl, Franz and Wolfgang of Bavaria and from the princesses Adelgunde (verh. Princess of Hohenzollern), Maria (Duchess of Calabria, Princess of Bourbon-Sicily), Mathilde (Princess of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha), Hildegard, Helmtrud and Gundelinde (Countess of Preysing-Lichtenegg-Moos) of Bavaria (subcategory 1.2.1.1.2). Letters from the spouses and children of the siblings can also be found in subcategory 1.2.1.1.2. In addition, letters from the other representatives of the royal line (subcategory 1.2.1.1.3) and the ducal line of the House of Bavaria (subcategory 1.2.1.2) as well as from the House of Leuchtenberg (subcategory 1.2.1.3), which is related to the House of Bavaria, can also be expected in the estate of Princess Wiltrud. Finally, subheading 1.2.1 also includes letters from members of the Bavarian court (subheading 1.2.1.4) and servants of the royal family in Bavaria and Sárvár (Hungary) (subheading 1.2.1.5). Among the letters from members of the court, the letters of Bertha Freiin von Wulffen, the educator and later court lady of Princess Wiltrud, are particularly noteworthy (Bü 440-447). The close relatives of Princess Wiltrud also include the members of the House of Austria (Habsburg), with whom Wiltrud's mother Marie Therese was Queen of Bavaria, who was a born Archduchess of Austria-Este Princess of Modena, and Wiltrud's grandmother Auguste Ferdinande Princess of Bavaria, who was a born Archduchess of Austria-Tuscany. The most extensive part of the collection is the one of the explorer Therese Princess of Bavaria (1850-1925), which is listed in category 2. These are documents from the estate of Princess Therese, which have been transferred to her niece Duchess Wiltrud. As can be seen from Bü 297, the materials kept in the inventory of GU 119 were handed over to Duchess Wiltrud by Oberarchivrat Franz Xaver Deybeck of the Bavarian Main State Archives in Munich, since they were out of the question for safekeeping in the Department of the Bavarian Main State Archives' Secret House Archives, in which the greater part of the written estate of Princess Therese is kept. There, the archives of the House of Urach form the GU series of inventories within the tectonics (inventory classification). During the reorganization of the archives by Wolfgang Schmierer, director of the archives, the documents of Wiltrud Herzogin von Urach were given the signature GU 119. Where it seemed appropriate, the units found were retained, for example in the correspondence series. Fürstin von Hohenzollern". In the case of the married members of the count's, baronial and aristocratic houses, the maiden name or married name was determined - insofar as this was possible with justifiable effort and with the help of the Genealogical Manual of the nobility. If the maiden name or married name is already mentioned in a note of the Duchess Wiltrud, this was taken over without examination of the same on the basis of the relevant literature. Since there was no comparable possibility of research for bourgeois wives, only in those cases in which identification was possible on the basis of notes and inscriptions of Duchess Wiltrud, the respective maiden name or married surnames were taken over without checking the information of Duchess Wiltrud.             The painter Anton von Werner was born on 9 May 1843 in Frankfurt an der Oder. He belonged to the Düsseldorf School, his teachers were K. Lessing and A. Schrödter. He became famous after 1870 for his [...] paintings to glorify the Hohenzollern monarchy (e.g. Moltke in Versailles, Kaiserproklamation) [...]. In 1875 A. v. Werner became director of the Berlin Academy of Arts. His long-standing friendship with the poet J. V. v. Scheffel led him to produce illustrations for all of Scheffel's works. A. v. Werner died on 4 January 1915 in Berlin. Literature: Adolf Rosenberg: Anton von Werner in: Velhagen and Klasing's artist monographs. "Erlebnisse und Eindrücke 1870-1890" (Self Biography), Berlin 1913 The estate consists of written records and numerous drawings. For the latter a special list was made in 1951 by Mrs. L. Enders. The documents are partly very damaged; correspondence and manuscripts are incomplete. Nothing can be determined about the origin of the stock. The annual reports of the former Prussian Secret State Archives (Rep. 178) do not mention it. A note "Lilli von Werner 1941" merely proves that he could not have reached an archive before 1941. Presumably it was outsourced during the war with the holdings of the GStA or the Reichsarchiv, without any written information having been preserved about it. It shall administer and maintain the existing old files of the War Ministry, its so-called old registry, keep and process the officer stock lists kept until 1874, other older files of the War Ministry or the War Ministry. of its departments, if for historical or other reasons they seemed to be worthy of preservation, to collect documents of permanent military or war-historical value from authorities, military units and private individuals, from whom they may retain title, and to reclaim the archival records handed over to the Haus- und Staatsarchiv in 1900 as soon as space conditions permitted.In addition, surveys on the history of the Württemberg army and troops and on the personal circumstances of former officers, as far as they were to be taken from the existing officer stock lists and were primarily of a statistical nature, surveys on circumstances and institutions in the Württemberg army, as far as the then existing ones were not touched and as far as they resulted from the files kept at the war archive, were transferred to the war archives.In addition to the library of the Ministry of Württemberg, which remained in the Central Department, the new institution had to acquire as many troop histories, biographies of Württemberg officers and rankings, court and state handbooks as possible, as well as several rooms in the building of the Ministry, which were too small altogether, and which did not allow for a satisfactory arrangement of the archives. This did not change until 1914, when the new building of the War Minister Jum could be occupied. The management was taken over by the colonel (retired) Wilhelm Strack von Weißenbac, who had been aggregated to the minis rium and who was still assigned a paymaster aspirant and, if required, individual non-commissioned officers and teams were commanded to provide assistance. The incoming documents - archive, library and collection material - were to be divided uniformly into 16, Roman-counted "series", whose titles were "Königliches Haus und Land", "Organisation und Formation des Militärs", "Feldzüge", "Handbibliothek", "Bau- und Festungspläne", "Stempelsammlung" and others. The further splitting into "series" resulted in signatures of up to five sections for the individual volumes and tufts (e.g. 11010 A f). To what extent preserved, very concise find book, which breaks off with Group III "Campaigns", covers all or only parts of the documents collected and recorded up to the outbreak of World War II, must remain open. On the whole, the war archives did not show any significant development: during the war Strack still had a small collection of newspaper clippings on individual fights, until he died on August 9, 1917. At almost the same time, Major Winter, who had been commanded to provide services in the War Archives since 1915, was placed at the disposal of the Deputy General Command, while Major Osterberg, retired Adolf Osterberg, was assigned to provide services to the War Ministry on 1 June 1915, namely its newly formed War History Department. By the end of the war the number of employees had risen to 27, including those employed only temporarily, 41, mostly reserve officers and Landsturm members. At the end of September 1916 the department was renamed "Kriegsarchiv 1", abbreviated to Kr. A. 1, while the previous Kriegsarchiv was given the name "Kriegsarchiv II", abbreviated to Kr. A. II. : The War Archive I had the task of collecting war diaries made by the field troops, viewing them and sending them to the Deputy General Staff of the Army in Berlin for transcription and examination, to show the "share of the Württemberg troops in the World War" in a sober scientific presentation by some officers who had been damaged by the war and had been ordered to the War Ministry, and to show them, with the help of the former War Minister von Schnürlen, the "share of the Württemberg troops in the World War", (1)in the series "Schwäbische Kunde aus dem großen Krieg" to describe and publish individual combat experiences in more popular form, (2)to create a collection of portraits of officers and army officials killed during the war and to publish them in the form of a commemorative plaque, "outstanding deeds of officers and individual troop divisions" and "heroic deeds", d. to present and publish the results of the war in a more popular form.h. to process reports requested by the field troops on the deeds of the non-commissioned officers and teams awarded the Iron Cross 1st Class or the Golden Medal of Military Merit, and to forward them to the local press, to talk about special achievements in combat in lectures and to make the texts available to the public. As the name suggests, they were presented immediately at the express request of the latter, then evaluated in the departments of the War Ministry, and finally, after a certain period of time, handed over to the War Archive I for permanent safekeeping and inspection for the aforementioned war-historical series. In January 1916, on the instructions of the War Minister, the thematic collection of newspaper clippings, which had been kept by the department since the beginning of the war and which had been added at that time until March 1915, was transferred to the War Archive I in order to be brought up to date here as quickly as possible. The individual subject areas of the collection were now designated with capital letters and further subdivided as of October 1917. As with the Central Department, excerpts from the Schwäbisches Merkur and other daily newspapers were collected, including the "Berner Bund", the "Münchener Neueste Nachrichten", and the "Vossische Zeitung", among others, while the Württemberg party papers pronounced as "Beobachter" or "Tagwacht" continued to be evaluated by the Central Department for the series remaining there. In August 1918, the collection was transferred to the newly created "Department H" of the Ministry, later "Ministerial Department". This department subdivided the excerpts from July into 17 new subject groups, which lasted until November, occasionally December 1918, and were brought to an end again in the War Archive after the dissolution of the Ministerial Department at the beginning of 1919. In the spring of 1918 there were five (working) groups a-e, some of which overlapped somewhat in their competence, and in the autumn of 1918 - after the formation of the ministerial department - they were regrouped into the groups a-d. The groups a-e were then divided into two groups. (3) : After the end of the war, Lieutenant Colonel (retired) Osterberg was reassigned to the General Command on 13 January 1919. A few days earlier, the staff of the Kriegsarchiv I had already elected Friedrich Hötzer, the vice sergeant of the Landwehr, from among its members to the board of directors. After protracted negotiations about the future shape of the military archives and, among other things, about a possible continuation of the work "Anteil der württembergischen Truppen am Weltkrieg" (Share of the Württemberg troops in the World War), the war archive was moved at the end of December 1920 from the building of the former Ministry of War in Stuttgart, Olgastraße 13 to the former rifle magazine of the secondary artillery depot in Stuttgart, Gutenbergstraße 109, and in January / March 1921 formally integrated into the then Reichsnebenarchiv, the future Reichsarchiv branch.As business transactions, as mentioned above, at first almost and later still to a considerable extent ran through other departments of the Ministry, mainly the Central Department, no systematic filing of documents developed for the War Archives during its existence. The main part of the Kriegsarchiv II consisted of archive material received from other provenance sites; Kriegsarchiv I focused on the drafts and, in part, fair copies of the series and individual writings processed here, followed by the reports of the troops received for safekeeping, among others.In the Reichsarchivzweigstelle / Heeresarchiv a part of these documents has been combined with other relevant documents to form new pertinence stocks: The various newspaper cuttings collections of the Ministry were added to the later stock M 731 "Druckschriften und Zeitungsausschnittsammlungen" and in individual cases continued until 1938/1942.The field postal letters were partly newly compiled and by a multiplicity of further letters they belong today to the holdings M 750/1-3 "field postal letters I-III". The photographs collected for the work "Anteil der Württembergischen Truppen am Weltkrieg" (share of the Württemberg troops in the World War) should form the basis of the holdings M 705/1 "Königsalben" (king's ointments) under inclusion of no longer individually ascertainable extensions.Photographs of fallen officers were stored in the stocks M 707 - M 709 "Portrait Collections I-III" without this always being possible to prove. The few remaining fact files and numerous report series were compiled by the Army Archives Council Captain of the Reserve Franz Knoch to the stock "War Archive". Furthermore, Knoch worked in parts of the archival material collected by the former Kriegsarchiv - for example from the former registry of the Generalquartiermeisterstabs until 1870 -, then "historical" records of other departments of the ministry, other authorities and troop units, i.e. mostly summarizing reports and memoranda, and finally still "various scattered files and records of Württenberg army members, which were purposefully incorporated into the Kriegsarchiv collection for lack of other classification possibilities". Knoch apparently felt himself that the documents united in this way in one inventory did not quite fit together, nevertheless he completed the find book in 1943. Probably in the same years the majority of the now available archive units were bound in booklet or book form, as was usual at that time with the Army Archives, even if this was not always satisfactory, especially in the case of "General Correspondence". Joachim Fischer and archive inspector candidate Walter Wannenwetsch, the documents classified here from the period up to 1870, then from 1983 onwards Senior State Archives Councilor Dr. Günter Cordes and archive employee Werner Urban further individual pieces in order to insert them into other holdings according to their provenance. Accordingly, only those documents remained which had grown up in the course of business of the War Archives (I and II). In addition, the collection of newspaper clippings kept by the Kriegsarchiv was taken from the aforementioned holdings M 731 "Druckschriften- und Zeitungsausschnittsammlung des Kriegsministeriums" and reintegrated here. In contrast, the other collections of the War Archive mentioned above - field mail letters, photographs - were converted to such an extent that their original condition could no longer be reconstructed in the Army Archives, and they were therefore left as archival collections. As early as 1972/75, Fischer created a separate finding aid book for the business diaries of the War Archive, which had not yet been recorded, and which could now be incorporated unchanged into the new repertory. The order and structure of the holdings are based on the original tasks of the war archives, as Fischer and Wannenwetsch had intended according to a preliminary draft. The order - as well as the naming and spelling - of the listed formations is based on the "Übersicht Friedens- und Feldformationen (Behörden und Truppen) des ehemaligen XIII. Armeekorps und deren Abwicklungsstellen" published in 1920 by the Heeresabwicklungsamt Württemberg (Military Processing Office Württemberg). The creation of separate local, personal and expert directories for the files/volumes and newspaper clippings is intended to facilitate access to the two different groups of archival records. In addition, the keywords for the files/volumes are based on Westenfelder's comprehensive subject title photographs, revised by Fischer, Cordes and Urban. On the other hand, the title recordings made by former Colonel Kurt Hiller around 1940 for the unfinished inventory of newspaper clippings by the Army Archives employee Oberst D. Kurt Hiller, which have now been taken over almost unchanged, go beyond general details of the contents and, especially in the notes on the contents - and thus also in the present index - bring conspicuous details. However, the material content of the newspaper clipping volumes is much more extensive, as can be seen from the content overviews compiled by the War Archives and bound to the volumes; however, it was not possible at present to compile the content of the new finding aid book in detail, which was desirable in itself, mainly for personnel reasons.In the reorganisation of the holdings, 66 archive units were combined with other identical subjects, 24 further, mostly double copies were removed; 349 tufts and volumes were integrated into other holdings in accordance with the provenance, while 2 newspaper cuttings were inserted here again.             Find aids: Find book from 1990 (online searchable); partly unexcavated registry formers: Walbeck belongs to the city of Hettstedt, Lkr. Mansfeld-Südharz, Saxony-Anhalt. In 992 Otto III from Wittum transferred the royal court of Walbeck to Empress Adelheid of Quedlinburg to establish a Benedictine monastery consecrated in 997. In 1540/42 the Counts of Mansfeld secularised the monastery over which they had exercised the bailiwick since 1387. During the sequestration in 1570/73, Walbeck was placed under the administration of the Electorate of Saxony as part of the county of Mansfeld-Vorderort. In 1815, it passed to Prussia, where it was assigned to the province of Saxony in 1816-1945. In 1563 Count Hans Albrecht von Mansfeld-Vorderort pledged the Walbeck office, consisting of the monastery estate and the villages Ritterode and Meisberg, to Ludolf von Bortfeld. His descendants ceded the pledge in 1661 to Count Johann Albrecht von Ronoff, who in 1663 compared himself with the Mansfeldern on resale acquisition. In 1677 he sold it to Friedrich Casimir zu Eltz. In 1727 the estate passed from his descendants by inheritance to Philipp Wilhelm and Johann Clamor von dem Bussche. The latter acquired it in 1742 as a hereditary purchase, in 1745 achieved the status of a knight's manor with old written records, and in 1743/50 had the baroque palace built. In 1845 Walbeck fell to Friedrich August Tellemann, who had married Anna von dem Bussche, by buying out the remaining heirs. Through her daughter Anna's marriage to Heinrich Friedrich Remigius Bartels, the manor was transferred to his family, who owned it until it was expropriated in the course of the land reform in 1945. In 1827 the patrimonial jurisdiction over Walbeck, Ritterode, Meisberg (partly) and Quenstedt belonged to the manor called Rittergut. The Quenstedt manor, formed from several hereditary properties, was acquired in 1726/27 and separated again in 1843 when it was divided, and the Kupferberg manor, which had belonged to Walbeck since 1667, before Hettstedt, was temporarily co-administered.             After Bischofsheim's incorporation, the almost 9 m files of the VOA 6 holdings were transferred to the Mainz municipal archives in the course of two deliveries. On 01.12.1934, 161 "Rechnungs-Archivalien" (Invoice Archives), mostly from the second half of the 19th century, were handed over by the local administration of Mainz-Bischofsheim (Zug.: 1934/96). At the beginning of 1939 she had 60 parcels of "finished files" ready for stamping. The then director of the city archive, Dr. Dertsch, singled out 40 packages with files mainly from the second and third decades of the 20th century as not worthy of archiving. They concerned social welfare, food supply during and after the First World War, "general course of business", state and Reichstag elections as well as forest and municipal affairs. On 03.03.1939 20 packages (without access number) were taken over. These included eight packages of "various old files from 1820-1920", four packages each of militaria and "school affairs until 1930", two packages of mayoral and municipal elections between 1850 and 1914, and one package each of agriculture (1870-1900) and construction ("older files"). With the two entrances, the documents of the Bischofsheim municipal administration that had been handed down and intended for permanent storage did not reach the Mainz municipal archives in their entirety. A part remained in the place, so that the Bischofsheimer tradition is today divided. In Bischofsheim, mainly files and official books from the early modern period and the first half of the 19th century are kept. This is a collection which was listed in its core as early as 1914 in the inventories of the municipal archives of the district Groß-Gerau (cf. Becker, Wilhelm Martin (ed.): Invententare der Gemeindearchive des Kreises Groß-Gerau, Darmstadt 1914 (Invententare der nichtstaatlichen Archive im Großherzogtum Hessen, vol. 3: Invententar der hessischen Gemeinde-Archive, H.1), pp. 7f. The Bischofsheimer directory was compiled by the teacher Bechtolsheimer and supplemented by the Kreisurkundenpfleger). After the Second World War, the holdings were obviously supplemented with more recent materials (cf. Inventory Catalogue of the Municipal Archive of the Municipality of Bischofsheim). In: Bischofsheimer Geschichtsblätter, H.40, September 1967, p.212-219). Although the 701 volumes (without duplicates of invoices) kept in the Mainz City Archives run from 1733 to 1937, they focus on the second half of the 19th century and the first three decades of the 20th century. Thematically, the areas "Church Affairs" and "Education" stand out. Reference should also be made to the files on voluntary jurisdiction, the French occupation after the First World War and the construction industry. When it was taken over by the town archives, the files were roughly arranged according to the 1908 registration plan for the grand ducal mayor's offices. When examining the archives, however, it became apparent that, on the one hand, the titles of the files given by the registration plan often did not describe their contents sufficiently and, on the other hand, that there was often no organic and, in many cases, no factual connection between the individual documents of a file volume. This made the distortion work more difficult. In order to ensure sufficient indexing, new file units had to be formed in part - disregarding archival principles. For the same reason, the titles were formulated in as much detail as possible and often supplemented with notes ("Contains", "Contains, etc.", "Contains, etc."). Reference was made to foreign documents as well as to newspapers and printed matter, photographs and plans (except for construction files) with "Darin auch". Only a few documents were collected, above all incomplete forms and questionnaires for statistical surveys, which were available in several copies, as well as advertising material from companies outside the Sprengels of the Mainz City Archive. A comparison between the delivery notes or lists from 1934 and 1939 on the one hand and the found stock on the other hand suggests that a small amount of material was destroyed between the time of the takeover and the distortion. It must remain unclear whether this was due to an archival decision or to the effects of war. In the final classification, the complete adoption of the 1908 registry plan did not seem to make much sense, as numerous departments would have been occupied with little or no occupancy at all. For this reason, a new scheme was developed on the basis of the registry plan and on the basis of the classifications found in other suburban archives of the Mainz Municipal Archives, which seeks to take account of the actual files found. Due to a personnel change, two editors were involved in the creation of the finding aid book, whose different "manuscripts" could not be completely suppressed during the final editing. It began with the drawing in spring/summer 1988 by Mrs. Andrea Eckel, was completed in winter 1990/91 by the undersigned, Mr. Heiner Stauder, who also carried out the classification and wrote the preface. The search book was entered into the database "Archibal" in November 1999 by Mrs. Gerda Kessler in cooperation with Mrs. Ramona Göbel (Chief Inspector of the Archives). Local history of Bischofsheim: The beginnings of today's Bischofsheim date back to the time of the Frankish occupation of the land. Both archaeological finds and the ending of the place name on "-heim" speak for this. However, the prefixed place of destination is not a personal name, as is usually the case, but an ecclesiastical official designation. Staab concludes that the bishop of Mainz was the founder of the Franconian settlement. He probably also owned the local church, which was probably dedicated to Saint Martin. It probably passed into the possession of the Sankt Viktor monastery near Weisenau around 1000, which was the most important landlord of the Mainz monasteries and monasteries wealthy in Bischofsheim alongside the cathedral monastery. It also received a large tithe in most of the district and had the right of patronage, which it retained even after the introduction of the Reformation in Bischofsheim during the 16th century. In the second half of the 13th century, members of various branches of the Reichsministerialengeschlechts von Bolanden could be seized as holders of sovereign rights. At the beginning of the 14th century the Hohenfels line had apparently prevailed, but in 1331 members of this house sold the village of Bischofsheim with court, people and all accessories for 400 pounds of heller to Count Rudolf von Wertheim and Gottfried von Eppstein. The aristocracy of Wertheim soon seems to have passed into the hands of the arch monastery of Mainz, which pledged it to Henne von Erlebach in 1417: von Weilbach. One of his descendants, Adam von Erlebach, and his wife Margarethe came in the same way into possession of the Eppsteiner share, which the pledgee lord sold to Count Philipp von Katzenelnbogen in 1478. After his death in the following year the Landgraves of Hesse inherit him, whose Darmstadt line succeeded in putting themselves into the complete possession of Bischofsheim. In 1577, after lengthy negotiations, the lords of Hattstein sold their rights to Landgrave George I to succeed von Erlebach, and two years later the archbishopric of Mainz did the same. Thus Bischofsheim has belonged to Hesse (-Darmstadt) since 1579. The change of rule in 1577/79 and the Reformation, which was presumably already in place before that, left the possessions and rights of the Mainz monasteries and monasteries untouched. Not until 1802/03 did their estates fall to the Hessian state in the course of secularisation. This transition was one of the many innovations that took place during the 19th century. In the wake of the constitution issued by the Grand Duchy of Hesse in 1820, the judiciary and administration were separated, which necessitated a reorganization of the state. Bischofsheim, which had previously belonged to the Rüsselsheim office, was assigned to the Dornberg district in the province of Starkenburg or to the Groß-Gerau district court. While the division of the judiciary remained largely the same over the next 110 years - only in 1879 did the district court of Groß-Gerau become the district court with the introduction of the German Court Constitution Act of 3 September 1878 - the territorial division of the administration was subject to several changes. In 1832 Bischofsheim was added to the district Groß-Gerau, after the dissolution of the districts in the course of the revolution of 1848 to the administrative district Darmstadt. When the districts were restituted in the course of the reaction in 1852, Bischofsheim returned to the Groß-Gerau district, where it remained until it was incorporated into Mainz in 1930. With the constitution of 1820, the traditional municipal constitution was also no longer compatible, which is why a new municipal order was issued in 1821. In Bischofsheim it also replaced the mayor's office with the mayor, who together with the deputy and the local council formed the local executive committee. However, in Bischofsheim the term "Schultheiß" seems to have been in use for some time. A further innovation in the first half of the 19th century meant the abolition of the traditional agricultural constitution: the rule of the land and the rule of the tenth disappeared with the transfer of the land charges, which had largely been carried out in Bischofsheim until 1842. At this time the Bischofsheimer still lived predominantly from agriculture. Their village had not yet expanded beyond the local embankment, which had been built to protect the inhabitants of the Mainufergemeinde from the often threatening floods. A profound socio-economic and demographic change began with industrialization in the second half of the 19th century. Numerous employees of the companies being established in the neighbouring communities, namely MAN in Gustavsburg and Opel in Rüsselsheim, came from or moved to Bischofsheim. However, the most important employer for the Bischofsheimers was the railway, which had a decisive influence on the history of the town. After the Mainz-Darmstadt line had been opened in 1858 and the Mainz-Frankfurt line in 1863, the Bischofsheim railway station was expanded at the turn of the century to become the largest marshalling yard in southern Germany and Mainz's relief freight yard. This contributed significantly to the growth of the settlement and population. The influx of railway employees and factory workers also created a Catholic community, after Bischofsheim - apart from some Jews - had been purely Protestant. The changes in the course of industrialization naturally also affected the activities of the municipal administration. Reference is made here to the construction of schools and local roads, which is reflected in the files at hand. These also provide information about the consequences of the French occupation of the Rhineland after the First World War and the passive resistance. Since this was exercised in particular also by numerous railwaymen, it came in Bischofsheim to numerous expulsions by the occupation authorities. At the end of the 1920s, the local government planned to lay gas and water pipelines. These two projects brought the community into severe financial distress in the context of the global economic crisis. In this situation, the idea of incorporation into Mainz was awakened for the first time, which was finally realised after hard disputes between the population and the local council. On 01.01.1930 Bischofsheim was incorporated into the city of Mainz together with neighbouring Ginsheim-Gustavsburg, Bretzenheim and Weisenau, which hoped to benefit from an expansion of its area. In 1930 their area doubled from 4096 ha to 8195 ha, of which 930 ha were in the Bischofsheim district. After the incorporation, Fischer, who had been mayor since then, initially acted as head of the village until, after the National Socialist seizure of power, he was replaced by the party member Fritz Eitel, who also headed the Ginsheim-Gustavsburg district. During his term of office the discrimination of the Jewish population began, which reached its first climax in the pogrom night of 9/10.11.1938. At that time the synagogue in Bischofsheim was damaged. The remaining Jewish inhabitants in Bischofsheim were victims of the Holocaust during the war. Victims were also claimed by the Allied bombing raids, which targeted the railway station, but often also affected the settlement. After the war, the Rhine became the border between two occupation zones or federal states. As a result, the connection between Mainz and Bischofsheim was dissolved, and Bischofsheim declared itself an independent parish again in the district of Groß-Gerau.             On 26 March 1880 the Embellishment Association was founded in the Hotel Wülker in Lemgo. The committee representing the association consisted of Captain van Santen, senior teacher Uhlmeyer and Wilhelm Schacht. Reason for the foundation of the association could have been the demolition of the rain gate and thus the last city gate in 1878. The aim of the association was to protect the recreational landscape from destruction and damage. Hiking trails have been set up and maintained and benches have been set up. The building of the observation tower with a forest tavern on the Spiegelberg probably also goes back to the Verschönerungsverein. The association will also have worked for the preservation of the former fortified areas and their development into a promenade. In 1910 Fritz Eldagsen was chairman of the "Verschönerungsverein", a beautification association which now increasingly devoted itself to the protection of birds. Sometime in the 1920s the association will have dissolved. The splinter of the association reached the city archive in 2011. References documents to the association also in A 6186 (1882).             The history of the Franck company ranges from the foundation of the chicory factory in Vaihingen in 1828 to the transition to Nestlé Deutschland AG, Frankfurt in 1987. A description of the company history was omitted in favour of a chronicle in tabular form. The files recorded in this finding aid book originate from a file delivery from 1978, which took place on the occasion of the firmation with Nestlé Gruppe Deutschland GmbH, Frankfurt (since 1987 Nestlé Gruppe Deutschland AG) and the transfer of the management of Unifranck Lebensmittelwerke GmbH to Munich. The printed company chronicles were taken from the previously unrecorded library records in the Ludwigsburg State Archives, which were also handed over in 1978, to complete the unprinted company chronicles of inventory PL 5. The structure of the records was based on the organisational plan of the Heinrich Franck Sons Central Administration of 1919 (PL 5 Bü. 145) and the existing old signatures. The registry order to be derived from the organizational plan and the old signatures, which was arranged according to the type of products manufactured, the central connection to Ludwigsburg or Berlin and the location of the branch, was reduced to the location and departmental responsibility according to the organizational plan of 1919 due to the incomplete nature of the archive records (some registry signatures were missing completely) and easier access. The products manufactured were not taken into account as distinguishing features. Little can be said about the history of the company archive. The central offices in Ludwigsburg and Berlin had the main significance. In 1935 the trademarks were transferred "for security reasons" from the registries in Ludwigsburg and Linz to Berlin (StAL PL 5 Bü. 145). From 1943 to 1947, a large-scale transfer of files and advertising material to Ludwigsburg took place (StAL PL 5 Bü. 1). To what extent and according to which criteria cassations were carried out until the files were delivered to the Ludwigsburg State Archives in 1978/1981 must remain open. The fact that they took place can be concluded from the incomplete registry signatures. Dr. Ruth Kappel was responsible for organising and indexing the finds as part of her practical training as a business archivist from October to December 1991. Dr. Günter Cordes took over the indexing and completion of the finding aid in 1992. The inventory was packaged by Bruno Wagner.             On the history of the authorities: From the Reichsdeputationshauptschluß of 1803, the territory of Württemberg up to the Treaties of Compiegne and Paris was subject to constant transformation and expansion. On May 1810, Württemberg concluded a treaty with Bavaria in Paris, which reorganized the course of the border between the two states and established a related exchange of territories. A new border line was drawn from Lake Constance to the Waldmannshofen (SHA) marking line, which ran along the rivers Iller and Tauber as far as possible. In addition to the former imperial cities of Bopfingen, Buchhorn and Ulm, Württemberg received from Bavaria all Bavarian regional courts or parts of regional courts located west of the new border (e.g. the "Landgerichtsteile"): Tettnang, Wangen, Ravensburg, Leutkirch, Söflingen, Albeck and Crailsheim). The eastern offices of Gebsattel and Weiltingen were transferred to Bavaria. On 28 October 1810, King Frederick I appointed a three-member commission to take possession of the newly acquired parts of the country and to record and clear up the course of the border. This commission consisted of the Privy Councillor Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin, the Privy Legation Councillor Johann Peter von Feuerbach and the Privy Chief Finance Councillor Ferdinand August von Weckherlin. In cooperation with the commissioners appointed by Bavaria, it was to take care of the ownership and organisational business in the new areas. Local officials were added to the Commissioners to assist them. The Commission was urged to forward reports and complaints to the higher authority in Stuttgart, the Committee for the Implementation of the latest State Treaties - consisting of the State Ministers Graf von Mandelslohe, Graf von Taube and von Reischach - (see D 29 Bü 1). Ulm, the main acquisition of the state treaty, was chosen as the main administrative seat. In November and December 1810, the commissioners were active on site except in Ulm to take possession. From March 1811, border clearing commissioners were appointed. The focus of the commission's work in 1810 was on the formal occupation of the new villages: Application of patents, swearing-in of subjects, etc. At the beginning of 1811, the Commission's activities focused on the organisation of the parts of the territory, the takeover of the servants and civil servants and the recording of assets and debts for the purpose of reconciliation with Bavaria. At the same time, under the leadership of Major General Heinrich von Theobald and the Privy Legation Council of Feuerbach, border cleaning business began in the upper offices. In April 1811, he was recalled from Feuerbach to Ulm to take over the debt and servant department. The Privy Legation Council of Wucherer replaced him for a short time. From March to mid-July, the commission in Ulm included the Landvogteisteuerrat Tafel and the registrar Kappoll Oberrechnungsrat Carl Eberhardt Weissmann, von Feuerbach, Rechnungsrat Vetter and, at times, Graf von Zeppelin, while von Weckherlin was in Stuttgart. With the return of Weckherlin to Ulm in July 1811 von Feuerbach again took over the clearing of the border. In Ulm, only Weckherlin and Weissmann were left behind, because the Commission's business increasingly shifted to the division of debts between Bavaria and Württemberg. The recording of assets and liabilities and the establishment of asset and liability capital of the cities and camera offices now determined the commission transactions. In March/April 1812, the entry and exit journals of the Commission end in Ulm (cf. D 29 Bü 5 - 6). In June 1812, the commissioner von Feuerbach, who was responsible for border clearance, went to Munich to clarify the questions still open at the new border (cf. D 29 Bü 157). Following this conference, the Main Execution Treaty of Munich was signed in September 1812. This marked the beginning of the second stage of border cleaning (cf. D 29 Bü 158). The questions of the distribution of debts with Bavaria, which were also still open, were taken over by Weissmann's Upper Council of Account, who travelled to Augsburg in April 1813 to the Debt Redemption Fund. Subsequently, this task was taken over by the Section of State Accounts, the predecessor authority of the Upper Chamber of Accounts, and the Section of Crown Domains. On the history of the holdings: The files of the royal Property Seizure Commission, which were created in Ulm between 1810 and 1812, were transferred by the Upper Chamber of Accounts to the Ludwigsburg Financial Archive in 1835 (cf. StAL E 224a Bü 75). In the case of the files, two lists of files presumably compiled by the Oberrechnungskammer with an index of facts, persons and places were appended. Until 1949 the file directories served as finding aids, the registry numbers I - CXXXIII already assigned by the Ulm authority and the fascicle numbers CXXXIV No. 1 - 28 presumably added later at the Oberrechnungskammer were retained as archive signatures (= presignature 2). Already when the files were taken over in 1835, 18 fascicles were registered as missing. In 1847 a revision took place in which the missing fascicles were marked again. The stock was relocated for several years. The files originally stored at the beginning of inventory D 21, Central Organizing Commission, have now been placed at its end. In 1908, the files of the Take-over Commission were transferred from the Financial Archive to the Ludwigsburg State Branch Archive. Before the year 1949 4 more tufts were added, which, listed by K. O. Müller, received the signature CXXXIV No. 29 - 32. In 1949 another revision took place, in which all existing files were signed through according to numerus currens; the numbering resulted in 146 tufts of files (= presignature 3). In 1987, 14 tufts from the HStA Stuttgart arrived in Ludwigsburg, which were sorted out when the inventory E 36, 2 Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was indexed and divided (= presignature 1). The files concerning the foundation system partly had file numbers of the Ulm registry, among them were 6 fascicles of the files already noted as missing when they were taken over into the archive. These files were added to the inventory and were given the numbers 147 - 161. In 1990, 37 tufts from the inventory E 36, 2 (Fasz. 23 - 33) 37 were again delivered from the main state archive Stuttgart. In 1994, 3 more tufts were added. On the occasion of the distortion and allocation of the tufts which arrived in 1990, it was decided to register and order the entire stock anew. The collection is divided into two large parts according to the development of the registry and the place where the files were created. Part 1 consists of the files that have grown and been filed with the Besitzergreifungskommission in Ulm. The files, most of which came from Stuttgart, form part 2 of the collection. These are the official files of the Commissioner von Feuerbach which arose outside Ulm during the settlement of the border clearance transaction. It is likely that von Feuerbach, who worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during and after his commission activities, took the files with him to this location, from where they then reached the old registry there. The Commissioner and Privy Legation Council of Feuerbach's area of responsibility did not only extend to border cleaning; at times he was also assigned the debt and servant department (cf. history of the authorities).the relatively small file units of the two registries were retained in the records; only in a few cases were files merged. Only old envelopes were collected. Especially in the case of the files presumably filed with the upper arithmetic chamber, foreign provenances were found. These altogether eight tufts or parts of tufts were inserted into the corresponding stocks (cf. concordance). Within these groups, a breakdown has been made by business and function of the Commission. An attempt was made to structure both parts equally. A comparison of the existing files with the find book presumably produced at the Oberrechnungskammer (cf. D 29 Bü 9) shows that the inventory is no longer complete. The re-drawing was carried out in 1994 by Mrs Sibylle Kraiss under the direction of the undersigned. Find aids: Findbuch 2016 (online searchable) Registraturbilddner: As successor to the Neue Aktienzuckerraffinerie Halle, which had existed since 1859 and went bankrupt in 1880, Zuckerraffinerie AG Halle was founded in 1881 with headquarters in Raffineriestraße there. The main purpose of the company was the processing of raw sugar into consumable sugar. Bread, cube, utility, granulated and icing sugar as well as molasses were produced. In 1885, the AG took over the Hallesche Zuckersiederei Compagnie auf Aktien, which had existed since 1835 (Am Hospitalplatz, Halle-Glaucha), the operation of which was abandoned in 1906. In 1922 the refinery joined the Vereinigung Mitteldeutscher Rohzuckerfabriken Halle (VEMIRO), whose representatives (raw sugar factories) held the majority of the shares in the company. As a result, raw sugar was processed only on the basis of factory wage contracts. Sugar sales were organized by Zuckervertriebsgesellschaft AG Halle. In the 1940s, prisoners of war, forced labourers and foreign workers were also used to ensure refinery production. In World War II, the sugar refinery AG was heavily destroyed, expropriated in 1946 and placed under the control of the industrial works of Saxony-Anhalt. As of 1 July 1948, the company was transferred into public ownership as VVB Zuckerindustrie - VEB Zuckerraffinerie Halle. In 1951 it became the VEB "Vorwärts" Zuckerraffinerie Halle. Inventory information: From the administrative archive of the VEB Zuckerkombinat Halle, about 6 linear metres of documents from the Zuckerraffinerie AG Halle were handed over to the Staatsarchiv Magdeburg in 1981, where the files were redrawn on index cards in 1984. The main products were agricultural equipment and machines for customers at home and abroad. In 1904 the company joined the Wohnungsbauverein Artern eGmbH as a co-partner. In 1910 the Maschinenfabrik merged with Ergon-Kosmos AG in Karlsruhe, in 1912 with Ruhrwerke Motoren- und Dampfkesselfabrik AG in Duisburg and finally took over Eisenwerk Brünner AG (later GmbH) in Artern in 1938. Sales offices were established in Elbing/Westpreußen (today Elblang, Poland), Nuremberg, Duisburg, Prague and Karlsruhe as well as Wroclaw, Gdansk, Berlin, Frankfurt/Oder, Hanover and Vienna. In the 1920s and 1930s the production and sales offer of the company was considerably expanded. In particular, Kaha, planet and zenith milk separators, ice machines, various types of steamers, steam generators, potato and milk can washing machines, shot and fertilizer mills, boilers, hay and straw blowers, boilers and radiators were offered. During the 2nd World War, war materials, anti-aircraft accessories and gunships were also built. Between 1946 and 1949, the company was confiscated, sequestered and liquidated, and converted into the machine factory of Soviet AG Maschinenbau vorm. Kyffhäuserhütte (SAG) in the Transmasch combine. Inventory information: In 1988, the company archive of the VEB Kyffhäuserhütte Artern handed over to the State Archive Magdeburg documents of the Aktien-Maschinenfabrik Kyffhäuserhütte Artern and its successor company which had been indexed via a number list and an incomplete card index. The partial revision of the index data was carried out in 1991 by an archival assistant, with minor corrections to archive signatures, durations and file titles. There were no cassations of archive material. In 1994 the Landeshauptarchiv Magdeburg transferred the files to the newly founded Landesarchiv Merseburg. In 2011 the card index was first retroconverted in the archive program scopeArchiv, in 2014 the final archive processing of the files took place.             1. important note: This find book is hopefully a preliminary aid for orientation in the stock. The title recordings were made directly during the recording and evaluation of the documents in the Natural History Museum so that the documents could at least be provisionally indexed and transferred to the State Archives for use. This of course meant that only a superficial development could be carried out. 120 units are in the portfolio. 2nd History of the Natural History Museum: The Staatliche Museum für Naturkunde Stuttgart has its origins in the ducal Kunstkammer. In 1791 an independent "Naturalien-Kabinett" was separated from this, which was responsible for the collection of minerals, plants and animals. In 1827 the Natural History Cabinet received a new building in Stuttgart's Neckarstraße, which it used together with the State Archives. The files contained in the collection bear witness to the not unproblematic proximity of two cultural institutions, which obviously worked against each other to assert their mostly scarce means. The building was rebuilt several times, in the 1860s by extending the wings towards Archivstraße. In 1944, the building was destroyed by the Natural History Museum and the State Archives; the natural history collections were then stored in Rosenstein Castle. In 1900 the Natural History Cabinet was given the modern name Natural History Collection, which was used until 1950. Since 1950 it has been the State Museum of Natural History, and in 1817 the Natural History Cabinet was placed under the authority of a newly established supreme authority, the Royal Directorate of Scientific Collections. This stood above the public library, the collection of coins, medals, art and antiquities and the collection of natural objects. On April 1, 1919, the Directorate of the Scientific Collections was abolished, the Natural History Collection as well as the State Library directly subordinated to the Ministry of Culture, and it was assumed that the tradition of the Directorate of the Scientific Collections had been largely destroyed in the Second World War together with that of the Ministry of Culture (see also below under 5.). Fortunately, among the documents of the Natural History Museum, there were numerous files from the Directorate of Scientific Collections. 3. content and order of the holdings: the documents provide information on the development of a princely collection of precious objects into a scientific enterprise and a museum that is becoming more and more accessible to the public. In this context, the general administrative acts presented here particularly reflected the practical affairs of the company: time and again, the securing and construction of premises, the procurement of the necessary furniture and personnel issues are at stake. In view of the disturbed situation of tradition in the Ministry of Culture, the documents of the Natural History Museum and the Directorate offered for separation were taken over completely up to and including 1945, provided that they were not completely meaningless redundancies with regard to content. In addition, there had also been assignments of documents and processes of the museum to the files of the directorate (and vice versa) in the Natural History Museum. A technically correct separation of the provenances could only be achieved here through individual analyses. For this reason, it was decided at the moment not to divide the holdings into a "Directorate of Scientific Collections" and a "Natural History Collection/Museum". Even a separation into an old collection until 1945 and a newer collection for the State Museum of Natural History after 1945 would not be possible and meaningful without detailed analyses. Such files, which clearly originated with the Directorate (identifiable by the file number, among other things) and were closed at the time of their existence, were assigned to the classification group "1st Directorate" with the final provenance "Directorate". Otherwise, it was occasionally necessary to decide according to the main focus of the file or to assign the file unit to the point "5. files (provenance not yet clarified)" until the situation was clarified; this was particularly often the case for files with a very long duration. Otherwise, the classification follows a chronological principle; in view of the small volume of the documents, it seemed reasonable to refrain at least for the time being from a factual subdivision. The Directorate in particular obviously followed a stringent file plan, which could not, however, be found.             On the history of the authorities: On 1.4.1902 the Adelberg district office, which was subordinate to the Schorndorf forestry office (old order), was made independent as the Adelberg forestry office (new order), the Adelberg forestry district part of the Schorndorf forestry association. These changes took place within the framework of the reorganization of the forestry administration of the Kingdom of Württemberg ordered by law of 19.2.1902 (Reg.Bl. p. 37). All forestry offices (old order) had been dissolved and the forestry offices (new order) formed from the previous district offices had been directly subordinated to the Forest Directorate. The Forest Directorate maintained supervision of the forestry offices even after the transfer of forestry and hunting to the Reich in 1934. With the establishment of the state administration after 1945, the Adelberg forestry office was integrated into the district of the Nordwürttemberg forestry directorate (since 1.10.1973 Stuttgart forestry directorate). Not affected by measures to abolish smaller forestry offices for a long time, the Adelberg forestry office was then one of the 45 forestry offices which were dissolved on 30 September 1975 as part of the organisational reform of the state forestry administration following the administrative reform. In accordance with an order issued by the state government on 1.7.1975 (Ges.Bl. p. 549), the Adelberg forest district was divided between the state forestry offices of Göppingen and Schorndorf, which were re-established with effect from 1.10.1975. On the history of the collection: The present collection consists of the documents of the Adelberg Forestry Office and the files of the Forestry Office dissolved in 1902. Schorndorf and the Adelberg district office. The State Archives Ludwigsburg has this document (together with the documents from the Forest Office a.O. Schorndorf adult files - see Bü 251) in two deliveries: On 19.8.1971 the Adelberg Forestry Office handed over 4.2 linear metres of files (Tgb.-No. 1291/71); a further 10.6 linear metres of files were added on 7.1.1976 after the dissolution of the Forestry Office (Tgb.-No. 20/76). Both delivery lists recorded the documents in the order of the file plan of the state forestry administration of 1955. The forestry office Adelberg had converted its entire file stock (including the old registration) to this modern file plan. Previously, the documents had been registered according to the norm file plan introduced around 1902 ("Repertorium für die Forstamts Registratur" - cf. Bü 238). In 1971, the collection still bearing the archival signature F 118 la was given the designation FL 605/3 - Forstamt n.O. after the 1974 series had been restructured. Adelberg. During the archival processing, the records of the Proveniences Forstamt a.O. were preserved. Schorndorf and Revieramt Adelberg from the stand FL 605/3 and in connection with stand F 113 I as F 113 II - Forstamt a.O. Schorndorf - merged (cf. preliminary remark F 113 II). The signatures of these archival records, which were recorded parallel to the inventory of the Adelberg Forestry Office, as well as its FL 605/3 signatures were transferred to the delivery registers; these can thus be used as concordances. In addition to the preproveniences remaining in the inventory FL 605/3, the forestry offices Schorndorf and Revieramt Adelberg, prefiles of the forestry offices Lorch and Hohengehren as well as the camera office Schorndorf were to be found. Processor's report: Due to its closed tradition, the Adelberg Forestry Office was to serve as a prime example of a Württ. forestry office and the holdings, not affected by any archival cassation, were to be made accessible in an exemplary manner. The title recordings are therefore sometimes very detailed, even in the case of archival records of a small size. The final bundle numbers (= order number) were assigned according to numerus currens. The structure of inventory FL 605/3 is based on the file plan of the Landesforstverwaltung Baden-Württemberg, l. Edition 1955, additions up to 1973. The structure is preceded by an overview of the structure of this decimal plan. In order to keep the detailed inventory structure manageable, it was necessary to combine archival records with different file numbers in one category for poorly documented groups of files (cf. parentheses of the classification). each title record is provided with a consecutive serial number in addition to the order number, which is referenced in the local and person index created by computer at the end of the repertory. A concordance additionally leads back from the order number to the order number. The data in the place index correspond to volume VIII of the series "Das Land Baden-Württemberg. Official description by districts and parishes". The place name Adelberg has only been taken into account in connection with the terms Gemeinde or Markung Adelberg; forest districts, Hüten, Fluren, etc. within the Adelberg forest district are also not excluded from the place index. Restrictions on use may arise in accordance with the applicable provisions due to the duration of the stock up to 1975 and due to the personal documents contained therein (including personal files). The use of the aerial photographs kept in tufts 667 is also subject to restrictions. The order and the drawing of the inventory was carried out by Mrs. Anita Hundsdörfer from June 1979 to September 1980 under the direction of the undersigned. The structure and completion of the repertory could not be completed until 1987 due to several changes in the responsible editors.             1. about sermons on corpses: There have been sermons on corpses as eulogies or sermons in the church since the Middle Ages. There are already approaches to this in pre-Christian antiquity. The custom of writing them down and later printing them, however, did not emerge in Lutheran Protestantism until shortly after the Reformation. The Catholic Church opposed - above all the lavish - funeral orations to prohibitions. After all, there is also evidence of sermons on corpses for Zwinglians, Calvinists and Catholics, albeit to a lesser extent. Because of the financial expenditure corpse sermons were printed above all for wealthy aristocrats and citizens. The heyday of printed funeral sermons was the decades before the 30 year war and the turn from the 17th to the 18th century. Around the middle of the 18th century, the custom of printing sermons on corpses declined sharply. There are also sermons on corpses from the 20th century, but these are much simpler than specimens from the heyday. Depending on the time of origin, but also on the social status of the deceased, the sermons can be more or less lavish. They range from the simple printed sheet with a maximum of four pages to the large folio-format volume with 200 or more pages, decorated with several copper engravings, notes and many different mourning texts. Some funeral sermons are also divided into several volumes, e.g. the Epicedia or only certain Epicedia separately bound. Such sumptuous writings are, of course, only conceivable in the heyday of sermons on corpses and only for people from high social status. Sermons on corpses contain different components. The actual sermon on the dead, i.e. the sermon at the funeral, forms the core of Scripture. Often it is based on a specific biblical passage as a leitmotif which the deceased could determine for himself or which has a relation to the activity of the deceased. A scripture may contain several such sermons which may have been delivered at the funeral, funeral service or other funeral service. In comparison, sermons on corpses often contain a curriculum vitae of the deceased (referred to as "Personalia" or "curriculum vitae"), which was read out during the celebrations and cannot describe the person of the deceased too negatively for reasons of piety. The third component is Epicedia, the mourning poems of relatives, friends or - in the case of aristocrats - high-ranking servants. Elaborate copper engravings - quite a majority - can decorate a funeral sermon. Often the deceased is depicted with a portrait, sometimes also in an allegorical representation. With several copper engravings the funeral procession (= corpse procession) can be represented or the coffin in different views. Music is relatively rare. The lyrics of sung mourning songs can be found more often, notes of such songs or even other musical performances at mourning ceremonies are already a precious rarity (cf. the separate list in the appendix). The present collection comprises a total of 2098 funeral sermons. Without consideration of the duplicates there are 797 different pieces. They can be divided into three groups, into sermons on corpses of members of the House of Hohenlohe (188 without duplicates), into sermons on corpses of other aristocrats who were frequently either related, in-laws or neighbours (332), and into sermons on corpses of commoners (277). Among the latter group, servants and other employees of the various high-wage houses predominate. Also included are - albeit with a rather small proportion - other personal writings, such as poems on the occasion of a birthday, a wedding or an anniversary, "Leichenge poems" (identical with Epicedia) and also writings on the occasion of celebrations in Hohenlohe on the occasion of the death of the emperor, etc. The collection of sermons represents a selection of material from several Highlohic archives. The origin of the individual funeral sermons can usually no longer be determined. Naturally, the funeral sermons must be seen as a relevant source of sepulchral culture. They are also indispensable for genealogical and other research, not least because of the often included curriculum vitae. The contained genealogical information is absolutely reliable, even if the evaluations in a funeral sermon cannot be too negative. General expressions about piety, lifestyle and virtues of the deceased, on the other hand, are not to be taken too literally. Sermons on corpses are also valuable sources for the history of art, literature and music as well as for theology, and social and economic history is increasingly devoting itself to them. Because of the biographies of counts and princes of the House of Hohenlohe, their wives and children and because of the copper engraved portraits they are valuable sources on the history of the House of Hohenlohe. Servants and other servants of Highloh courts are also documented by them, as are friends, relatives and neighboring nobles. The materials about funeral ceremonies at Highloh courts, which contain some of the collected funeral sermons, touch on Highloh cultural history. The funeral sermons show the social circle that was involved in the funeral ceremonies in an exposed way. Zur Bearbeitung des Bestandes: As part of a project of the Historical Commission that also included sermons on corpses of other archives and libraries, Dr. Elisabeth Zimmermann recorded the Neuenstein sermons for the first time between summer 1948 and summer 1949. The drawing was done according to the model of Stollberg's catalogue and was comparatively detailed. The result was a card index, which was incomplete at the beginning of the 70s (when the Hohenlohe Central Archive was taken over by the state). The stock had become considerably disordered. In the meantime, further Hohenlohische archives had been relocated to Neuenstein, whose sermons on corpses were also to be integrated into the collection. As a result, the size of the collection had increased considerably. In 1987 the employee Fritz Kempt began a new indexing under the guidance of Oberarchivrat Dr. Moegle-Hofacker, which took into account the entire material at hand. The title recordings were largely completed by Kempt until his retirement in December 1988. The final work including the editing of the find book was done by the undersigned in winter 1994/95. In the present find book the sermons of the corpses are described according to the following scheme. In the upper right corner, the relevant lift-out number for storage in the magazine is indicated. If this is marked with an asterisk (), several copies are available which are listed as duplicates at the end of the description. Alternatively, a duplicate can also be used. The excavation number can be divided into 6, 6 a and 6 b or 6.1 and 6.2. In such a number assignment there should normally be two funeral sermons bound together to form a volume. Bold highlighted, the excavation number is followed by the order number relevant for the arrangement in the finding aid book and then the name of the deceased person as the most important information, as this is used to classify the funeral sermon. As far as known, the "personal data" are added in a separate block: Birth name, Date and place of birth, date and place of death, funeral dates, marriage date, spouse, place of marriage and details of status, occupation, offices and memberships. The second block contains the data for the funeral sermon. This includes the presignature, all sermons for the corpse in the narrower sense (i.e. sermons for the funeral service, burial and other funeral ceremonies) with details of the author and, if applicable, the Bible quotation used. It also contains information on other components of the funeral sermon such as personalia (curriculum vitae), epicedia with information on the authors, copper engravings with picture descriptions, painters and engravers, notes, coats of arms and information on the print and scope of the script. At the end of this block there may be references to literature (autobiographies, lists of writings, etc.). The duplicates may be listed in a third block. The characterization of the persons involved in the creation of the funeral sermons, i.e. the authors of sermons or Epicedia or the artists, is usually taken from the funeral sermon and refers to the time at which it was written. The designations of their functions have sometimes been modernised, especially in Part I. In the second part, which comprises various regions of the former empire, the functional designations are often reproduced as in the sermon on the corpse (abbreviated), since the dissolution and modernization would have required too much special knowledge. The order of the sermons was according to the three groups: Hohenlohe, other aristocrats and commoners. Within these groups, the name alphabet is authoritative. The classification is determined by the name that the person used when he or she died. Married daughters from the Hohenlohe family are therefore no longer to be found under Hohenlohe. However, such references are taken into account in the index by means of references. For emperors and kings the first name is decisive for the classification, for other aristocrats the sex name. The order of the index cannot agree with the storage order for several reasons. Some funeral sermons are bound together with others to form thick volumes, the format of the funeral sermons changes too often. The collection shall also be kept open for further access. Therefore the storage in the magazine takes place according to numerus currens. The stock, which received the designation "GA 90 Leichenpredigten", comprises 2098 volumes in 17.5 linear metres. m.The files in the relevant stocks are to be consulted about funeral ceremonies in the house Hohenlohe beside the funeral sermons also, which can contain also funeral sermons or parts of it.Neuenstein, in December 1996Dr. Schiffer

The estate consists mainly of numerous correspondence and publications with predominantly political content, reflecting the political views and commitment of Theodor Schiemann and his contemporaries (colleagues, friends and acquaintances). The individual letters under item 01.03 are either individual letters or only a few letters from one sender. The content of these letters is often similar, as it is always a matter of political issues and current affairs. As item 06, the estate was further enriched with documents from a daughter of Schiemann, Prof. Elisabeth Schiemann, which relate to the estate. Due to the late maturities, numbers 180, 258, 148 and Annex No. 3 probably also belong to this group, but have been left under points 03 and 04.02 in favour of the old order.             The history of the district governments: The district governments were established by the 4th Edict of 18 Nov. 1817 at the same time as the district chambers of finance were revoked in 1849. Previously, the entire administration in Württemberg had been led by a central government college, in which sections had been formed for the various branches of the administration, in addition to the district governorates, which had only little competence and were called bailiwick bailiwicks from 1810 onwards, as well as the municipal and district authorities. The division of the country into districts and the creation of provincial colleges was modelled on the French Departmental Constitution of 1789, which also formed the basis for a new administrative organisation in other German states at the beginning of the 19th century. In 1818 it was put into effect, and at the same time the sections of internal administration, medicine, roads, bridges, hydraulic engineering, local government and the Commission for Municipal Use and Allodification of Farm Loans existing in the Ministry of the Interior, the section of crown domains, the section of state accounts, the section of agriculture, the section of state coffers in the Ministry of Finance, the section of foundations in the Ministry of Church and Education were abolished.After the instruction of Dec. 21. In 1819, the district governments were the supreme authorities in their area for all matters of state administration in the field of regimes (sovereign administration), the state police and the state economy, and for the administration of the property of municipalities, official bodies and foundations, insofar as these objects were not assigned to other district or central offices (Chambers of Finance as well as Protestant Consistory, Catholic Church Council, Academic Council, Superior Building Council, Provincial Stud Commission, Medical College, Superior Chamber of Accounts, Tax College, Forestry Council and Bergrat).The old 1819 directive was valid for 70 years, it was only replaced by the Decree of 15 Nov 1889 on the organisation of district governments and the course of their business. Their business was handled by a president as a member of the board, administrative councils and collegial assessors as well as the necessary office staff. To the district government of Reutlingen: The seat of the government of the Black Forest district, established at the end of 1817, was Reutlingen (Reutlingen district government), which was responsible for the upper offices of Balingen, Calw, Freudenstadt, Herrenberg, Horb, Nagold, Neuenbürg, Nürtingen, Oberndorf, Reutlingen, Rottenburg, Rottweil, Spaichingen, Sulz, Tübingen, Tuttlingen (with exclave Hohentwiel) and Urach. Structure, order and distortion of the inventory: Present holdings E 177 I essentially contain the records handed over to the Ludwigsburg State Archives by the registry office of the district government in Reutlingen on December 3, 1924 - a torso in relation to the original records.A considerable number of the registry files had already been withdrawn and collected in 1823, 1835, 1848, 1853, 1863, 1872, 1889 and finally 1924, including the records until 1850, the business diaries until 1870 and the directorates until 1830 (cf. Further files had been handed over to the following offices for reasons of competence:- 1873 to the ministerial department for building construction (building files),- 1908 to the archive of the interior (files of the county Ober- und Niederhohenberg zu Rottenburg, the bailiwicks Black Forest, on the Alb, on the upper Neckar and on the middle Neckar, the Churfürstl. 1924 finally to the 17 upper offices of the district, to the ministerial department for district and corporate administration, to the ministerial department for building construction, to the regional trade office, to the trade and supervisory office, to the catholic high school council, to the ministerial department for higher schools and/or to the ministerial department for the higher schools. The files handed over to the Archive of the Interior as well as parts of the files handed over to the Ministerial Department for District and Corporation Administration and the Higher Offices (above all the Higher Offices Reutlingen and Urach) later came from these offices directly or via successor authorities (District Administrator's Offices) or the Ministerial Department for Technical Schools (see E 177 I Büschel 301 and 4393). In 1937, the State Archives Ludwigsburg, under the direction of the subsequent Director of the State Archives Prof. Grube, undertook a makeshift order and indexing of the holdings, which he described in the find book as follows: "The registry of the Reutlingen district government was handed over to the State Branch Archives in 1924 with an inadequate handover register of 5 pages. The older registry plan (with keyword register) and a keyword register of 1910 designated as "Repertorium", which was also handed over, were also not sufficient for the determination of the actually existing files. Since it is not possible in the foreseeable future to keep an internal order for the somewhat confused holdings and to separate the files that are not worthy of archiving, the present repertory was produced by Hausverwalter Isser in 1935 on the occasion of the external order of the holdings as a temporary auxiliary measure according to the fascicle inscriptions. As part of the revision of the holdings of the district governments in the Ludwigsburg State Archives from 1986 to 1990, the undersigned, together with the temporary employee Karin Steißlinger, who opened up the extensive administrative legal cases, made new title records for the various partial holdings of the Reutlingen district government (E 177 I, E 177 III and without signature). The registry was based on a simple systematic order introduced after 1863 by Registrator Bregizer and Chancellor List Wenz, according to which the files were divided into the main groups A Regiminal and B Police files with 19 and 13 rubrics respectively; the file bundles themselves were correspondingly provided with file signatures, i.e. with letters and numbers of the stands (boxes) and compartments. After the new indexing had been completed, the title records created using the numerus currens-procedure were sorted according to the old file plan, but the structure of the file groups in the finding aid book was made clearer and without the division into two parts of the Regiminal and Police Administration. Of these, 0.5 linear metres were allocated to the files available here (Kreisreg. Ludwigsburg, Ellwangen and Ulm, Commission for the Clean-up of the Official and Municipal Association, Ministerial Department for District and Corporation Administration). The Main State Archives received 0.6 linear metres (mainly old-valued files) and the State Archives Sigmaringen 1.6 linear metres (files of the higher offices), while 0.8 linear metres of files (slaughterhouse and meat inspection fees, office costs of the higher offices, examination of sports invoices) were collected.For 297, plans and cracks still attached to the files as well as 175 newspaper copies proof maps for the holdings JL 590 and JL 430 were produced. 4484 tufts were made for the holdings E 177 I. Ludwigsburg, in November 1990Hofer tufts 4485 to 4499, received from the State Archives Sigmaringen with access 2000/79, were incorporated into the holdings in July 2009. Retroconversion: This finding aid book is a repertory that was previously only available in handwritten or typewritten form and was converted into a database-supported and thus online-capable format according to a procedure developed by the "Retroconversion Working Group in the Ludwigsburg State Archives". This can lead to a certain discrepancy between the modern external appearance and the partly outdated design and formulation of the title recordings. Corrections, deletions and additions were verified and incorporated.

            History of the Inventory Designer: The Reichsschrifttumskammer was established with the First Ordinance on the Implementation of the Reichskulturkammergesetz of 01 November 1933 [1]. It was intended to bring together 'all those persons who, from the initial production of the poetry to commercial distribution, worked on German literature' [2]. However, this did not include newspapers and magazines which were regarded as press products and were therefore under the supervision of the Reich Press Chamber. The demarcation between the two chambers was regulated in the "Joint Announcement on the Integration Obligation of Business and Publishing Enterprises at the Reichsschrifttums- or Reichspressekammer of 4 April 1934" [3]. At the beginning, the registration of professionals working in the field of literature was limited to the Reichsverband deutscher Schriftsteller. However, this already changed on 22 December 1933 with the "Bekanntmachung über die Gliederung der Reichsschrifttumskammer" [4]. Thus existing professional associations such as the "Verband der Deutschen Volksbibliothekare E.V.", the "Verein Deutscher Bibliothekare E.V.", the "Reichsfachschaft Buchhandel im Deutschen Handlungsgehilfen-Verband" were integrated into the Reichsschrifttumskammer. Its members became members of the Chamber and were thus subject to the disciplinary power of the Chamber. In addition, new working groups were formed and various professional groups joined together in associations. These included, among others, the "German Book Communities" and the "Society of Bibliophiles". The German public libraries were to be combined by the German Community Day "in order to integrate them into the Reichsschrifttumskammer"[5]. As in all other areas of culture, membership of the Reichsschrifttumskammer was absolutely necessary in order not to be subject to a de facto ban on employment. Thus the "Order of 30 July 1934 on Proof of Membership in the Reichsschrifttumskammer"[6] ensured that the publishing and book trade enterprises were only allowed to enter into business relations with members of the RSK. In order to facilitate the implementation of that order, all members had to indicate 'in their business correspondence the membership number of their competent professional association'[7]. Violations should be punished with disciplinary action. Information on authors and translators was provided by the publishers at the request of the "Kontrollstelle des Reichsverbandes Deutscher Schriftsteller". In any case, the authors had to provide considerable personal information and expert opinions (e.g. expert opinions of the NSDAP, the Gestapo and the responsible state leadership of the RSK[8]) in order to become members. "Unreliable" authors were thus prohibited from exercising their profession by refusing membership. The rejected applicants and exclusions from the RSK were published in the Börsenblatt des Deutschen Buchhandels, in the Großdeutscher Leihbüchereiblatt and in the magazines "Der Schriftsteller" and "Der Autor". In addition to professional representation and support, the RSK had the task of maintaining a "list of harmful and undesirable literature", which appeared in print for the first time in 1936. However, the decision on book prohibitions was taken by the Reich Ministry for Popular Enlightenment and Propaganda. "The political influence of the German literature [...] is a matter of the Reich Ministry for Popular Enlightenment and Propaganda (Department VIII), which uses the Reichsschrifttumsstelle established at the Ministry to solve this task"[9] The organisational structure [10] consisted of the President, two Vice-Presidents, the former President and the Presidential Council at the management level. The first President Hans Friedrich Blunck was replaced by Hanns Johst in October 1935. Blunck received the title of "former president" and was entrusted with overseeing the Chamber's foreign relations. The office was divided into five departments: I. Central Division II. Writers' Group III. Book Trade Group IV. Book Advertising V. Librarianship VI. Address and Advertising Book Trade VII. Economic Office of the German Book Trade The regional substructure consisted of the regional managements of the chamber in the respective district. They were to be addressed with applications for admission, general requests for literature and professional matters. These were included in the present distortion. The material files in the "Reichsschrifttumskammer" collections of the former Berlin Document Center were sorted out, newly recorded and assigned to the holdings. The content is essentially as follows: 1.) Review and permission to publish books, booklets and publications 2.) Inclusion in the "List of harmful and undesirable literature" 3.) Differences of opinion (disputes) between writers and publishers 4.) Correspondence between the RSK Headquarters and its national management in the individual districts. Archive processing The file titles available in the Koblenz partial stock are recorded in the online find book edited by Mr. Tim Storch. The signatures assigned at that time were retained. Information on the BDC stocks is already contained in the Findbuch R 56 [11]. However, the titles listed there do not reflect the full range of files listed here. On the one hand, this was the "Review and Approval of the Publication of Books, Booklets and Publications" (R 56 V/215-827), in which the publishers only informed the RSK about new editions and publications. Secondly, the RSK included various books (mostly foreign) in the "List of harmful and undesirable literature", mostly at the suggestion of the RMVP, which was tantamount to a ban. These documents were classified in the series "Inclusion in the "List of harmful and undesirable literature" - individual cases. The specimen copies found in the files were left there and included in the note containing them. Wolfram Werner's classification, 'which was not strictly based on the administrative structure'[12], had to be extended to include 'management', since it became apparent during the recording that the disputes in the file did not fit into that scheme. According to the "Handbuch der Reichskulturkammer" (Handbook of the Reich Chamber of Culture), an arbitration board was responsible for "differences of opinion between writers on the one hand, publishers and other exploiters of literary works on the other"[13], which was attached to the Rechtsreferenten. This legal officer in turn was directly subordinated to the management of the RSK [14]. Therefore the management was subdivided into the 3 areas "Legal Officer", "Supervisor" and "Intelligence and Statistics Unit". The classification point "Rechtsreferent" was divided into the areas "Allgemeine Rechtsfragen der Kammer" (R 56V/1050) and the so-called "Schlichtungsstelle" (litigation). In order to maintain uniformity, the old classification point "Surveillance and prohibition of literature" has been moved to the point "Supervisor". For disputes between individual writers, it was again not the conciliation body in the management that was responsible, but Division II (Writers' Group), which was subdivided into "Technical, Legal and Social Support for Writers". The old classification did not correspond so stringently to these individual areas. However, the newly recorded files made this necessary. The old classification point "Individual writers, in particular membership matters" was renamed "Technical support, also membership matters". The second classification point is "Legal support". The remaining classification points of the "Writers' Group" have been retained.             History of the inventor: Joseph Goebbels, who had already been head of the NSDAP's Reich Propaganda Department since 1929, had certainly developed plans for a Ministry of Propaganda even before the seizure of power.(1) The Reichskabinett (Reich Cabinet) dealt with the issue of the Propaganda Department on 11 September. The arguments for the foundation, which the Reich Chancellor (Hitler) himself presented, sounded extremely harmless ex post and far from future realities: "One of the predominant tasks of this ministry would be the preparation of important acts of government. On the oil and fat issue, for example, which now occupies the cabinet, the people should be enlightened in the direction that the farmer would perish if something were not done to improve the sale of his products. The importance of this matter also for the war measures would have to be pointed out ..." Government action would only begin if the awareness-raising work had taken place and worked for some time. ..."(2) On 16 March 1933, however, Goebbels described the future tasks of his ministry programmatically three days after his appointment in a remarkably open manner in front of press representatives: "If this government is now determined never to give way again, never and under no circumstances, then it need not make use of the dead power of the bayonet, then in the long run it will not be able to be satisfied with knowing 52 percent behind it ..., but it will have to see its next task in winning the remaining 48 percent for itself. This is not only possible through objective work". And about the nature of his propaganda he proclaimed: "Not any aesthete can judge the methods of propaganda. A binding judgment can only be given on the basis of success. For propaganda is not an end in itself, but a means to an end.(3) A timid attempt by Hugenberg to at least delay the decision to establish the Ministry of Propaganda in the cabinet meeting of March 11, 1933 failed miserably. Already on 13 March 1933 the law on the establishment of the RMVP was signed by the Reich President and the "writer" Dr. Goebbels was appointed minister.(4) Almost three weeks later, on 5 April 1933, Goebbels noted in his diary: "The organisation of the ministry is finished".(5) In difficult negotiations(6) with the ministries, which had to cede parts of their competences to the new ministry, the responsibilities were determined in detail. The RMVP was responsible for all tasks relating to intellectual influence on the nation, advertising for the state, culture and economy, informing the domestic and foreign public about them, and the administration of all institutions serving these purposes. As a result, the business area of the RMVP will be: 1. from the business area of the Federal Foreign Office: News and education abroad, art, art exhibitions, film and sports abroad. 2. From the RMI division: General Domestic Enlightenment, Hochschule für Politik, introduction and celebration of national holidays and celebration of national holidays with the participation of the RMI, press (with Institute for Newspaper Science), radio, national anthem, German Library in Leipzig, art (but without art-historical institute in Florence, copyright protection for works of literature and art, directory of nationally valuable works of art, German-Austrian Convention on the Export of Art, Protection of Works of Art and Monuments, Protection and Maintenance of Landscape and Natural Monuments, Nature Parks, Preservation of Buildings of Special Historical Importance, Preservation of National Monuments, Verband Deutscher Vereine für Volkskunde, Reich Memorial), Music Conservation, including the Philharmonic Orchestra, Theatre Matters, Cinema, Combating Trash and Dirt 3. From the business areas of the Reich Ministry of Economics and the Reich Ministry of Food and Agriculture: Economic Advertising, Exhibitions, Trade Fairs and Advertising 4. From the business areas of the Reich Ministry of Posts and the Reich Ministry of Transportation: Traffic Advertising Furthermore, all radio matters dealt with by the Reich Ministry of Posts and the Reich Ministry of Transportation are transferred from the business area of the Reich Ministry of Posts, unless they concern the technical administration outside the premises of the Reich Broadcasting Company and the radio companies. In matters of technical administration, the RMVP shall be involved to the extent necessary to carry out its own tasks, in particular in determining the conditions for the awarding of broadcasting rights and the regulation of fees. In particular, the representation of the Reich in the Reichsrundfunkgesellschaft and the broadcasting companies is fully transferred to the RMVP. The RMVP is in charge of all tasks, including legislation, in the designated areas. The general principles shall apply to the participation of the other Reich Ministers." (RGBl. 1933 I, p. 449) These competences were exercised by seven departments, so that the business distribution plan of 1 Oct. 1933 (7) shows the following picture: Ministerial office (with five employees), directly subordinated to the Minister. State Secretary, at the same time Head of Press of the Reich Government I. Administration and Law with one main office Administration, three departments as well as the registry II. Propaganda with 10 departments 1. Positive world view propaganda, shaping in state life, press photography 2. Defence (defence against lies at home and abroad) with eight papers Goebbels was obviously not satisfied with the official title of his ministry. The extensive tasks in the fields of culture and the arts did not come into their own and the word propaganda, of which he was aware, had a "bitter aftertaste" (8). His proposal to rename his department "Reichsministerium für Kultur und Volksaufklärung", however, met with Hitler's rejection. (9) In July 1933, a circular issued by the Reich Chancellor drew the attention of the Reich governors to the exclusive competence of the Reich or of the new Ministry for the above-mentioned competences and called on them to cede to the RMVP any existing budget funds and offices of the Länder. (10) At the same time, 13 regional offices were established as the substructure of the Ministry, the sprinkles of which corresponded approximately to those of the regional employment offices, and 18 imperial propaganda offices, which subdivided the territory of the regional offices once again. After the Reichspropagandastellen were already converted after short time (approx. 1934) to Landesstellen, in each Gau of the NSDAP a Landesstelle of the RMVP was located. Their leaders were in personal union at the same time leaders of the Gaupropagandaleitungen of the NSDAP, which in its leadership, the Reichspropagandalleitung, was also perceived by Goebbels in personal union. (11) As a result, conflicts of loyalty between the Gaupropaganda leaders/leaders of the RMVP regional offices were unavoidable in disputes between Goebbels and individual Gauleiters. According to theory, the regional offices were supposed to monitor and implement the political decisions made in the ministry in the individual districts, but in practice their heads were often more dependent on their respective Gauleiter than on the ministry due to the above-mentioned personal union. By the Führer decree of 9 September 1937 (RGBl. 1937 I, p. 1009), the Landesstellen were renamed Reichspropagandaämter and elevated to Reich authorities. After the integration of Austria there were no less than 42 Reichspropagandaämter with 1400 full-time employees. (12) In addition to the state offices and Reich Propaganda Offices, a whole range of offices, organizations, associations, societies and societies soon developed, which are to be counted to the subordinate area of the Ministry. (13) Despite the apparently clear regulation on the responsibilities of the RMVP, the 13 years of its existence were marked by disputes over responsibilities with other ministries, in particular with the ministers Rust, Rosenberg and Ribbentrop, of whom Goebbels, as is known, held very little personally. Successes and failures in the competence disputes cannot be followed in detail here; they depended to a large extent on Hitler's relationship with Goebbels. For example, Goebbels did not succeed in extending his competence in theatre to the Prussian State Theatres in Berlin. By contrast, in 1943 the RMVP assumed responsibility for carrying out the Eastern propaganda, while Rosenberg, as Reich Minister for the occupied Eastern territories, was left with only the authority to issue guidelines. (14) In the conflict with the Federal Foreign Office over the delimitation of responsibilities for foreign propaganda, an arrangement was reached in a working agreement in October 1941. (15) Wehrmacht propaganda also remained long and controversial. Despite many efforts (16), Goebbels did not succeed in making a decisive break in the competencies of the OKW/Wpr department until the end of the war in March 1945. Propaganda into the Wehrmacht and about the Wehrmacht at home and abroad was then to be taken in charge by the RMVP. It is not possible to determine whether the planned organizational consequences have yet been implemented. (17) Another major success for Goebbels was the establishment of the Reichsinspektion für zivile Luftschutzmaßnahmen (Reich Inspection for Civilian Air Defence Measures), which was headed by the RMVP (18), and his appointment as Reich Plenipotentiary for Total War Operations by Führer Decree of 25 July 1944 (19). For the last months of the Third Reich, Goebbels had reached the zenith of power with this function, apart from his appointment as Reich Chancellor in Hitler's last will and testament of April 29, 1945, which had become effective only theoretically. As Reich Plenipotentiary for the total deployment in war, he had extremely far-reaching powers over the entire state apparatus with the exception of the Wehrmacht. (20) Until that date, the competences of the RMVP had changed only slightly in the main features of all disputes over jurisdiction. That it nevertheless grew enormously and steadily until 1943 (21) was mainly due to diversification and intensification in the performance of its tasks. After 1938, the expansive foreign policy of the Third Reich necessitated further propaganda agencies to direct and influence public opinion in the incorporated and occupied territories. In the occupied territories with civil administrations, "departments" (main departments) for "popular enlightenment and propaganda" were usually set up in the territories with military administration, "propaganda departments", which exercised roughly the functions of the Reich Propaganda Offices. Their position between their superior military services and the RMVP, which sought to influence the content of the propaganda and from where part of the personnel came, was a constant source of conflict. As an indication for the weighting of the individual areas of responsibility of the Ministry in relation to each other, the expenditures for the individual areas in the 10 years from March 1933 to March 1943 are mentioned. With a total volume of 881,541,376.78 RM (22), the expenses for the Active propaganda: 21.8 Communications: 17.8 Music, visual arts, literature: 6.2 Film: 11.5 Theatres: 26.4 Civil servants and equipment: 4.3 Salaries, business needs, including film testing agencies and RPÄ: 12.0 By 1942, the RMVP and its division had been continuously expanded, before facilities in the subordinate area were shut down and departments in the ministry were merged as part of the total war from 1943 onwards. The art departments of theatre, music and visual arts were dissolved and merged into a single department of culture (cult). The East Department was integrated into the Propaganda Department as a main department, the Tourism Department was shut down and the General Departments of the Reich Cultural Chamber, Armaments and Construction and Propaganda Troops were dissolved. Inventory description: Inventory history The RMVP records have suffered substantial losses, although the main building of the Ministry, the Ordenspalais am Wilhelmplatz, was destroyed relatively late and almost accidentally in March 1945. Large parts of the old registries, including the previous files from the Federal Foreign Office and the Reich Ministry of the Interior (1), had already been destroyed by air raids in 1944. Moreover, in the last days of the war before and during the conquest of Berlin by the Soviet Russian army, files were also systematically destroyed. (2) In view of the total collapse and devastation of Berlin by the air war, it is not surprising that hardly any manual or private files of RMVP employees have been handed down. Notable exceptions are, in particular, documents from Ministerialrat Bade (press department) (3) and hand files of the head of the broadcasting department, Ministerialdirigent Fritzsche. In this context, the diaries of Goebbels should also be mentioned, which, with the exception of those edited by Lochner in 1948, had been lost for almost 30 years. (4) The bulk of the volumes available in the Bundesarchiv Koblenz until 1996 was transferred from Alexandria (cf. Guide No. 22) and from the Berlin Document Center to the Bundesarchiv in the years 1959 - 1963. The personnel files still held back were added to the portfolio in 2007. The RMVP files kept by the Ministry of State Security of the GDR (mainly personnel files, personnel processes of the theatre, music and defence departments), which were stored in the so-called NS archive until 2006, are also assigned to the holdings. Not in Allied hands was only a small collection from the Music Department and some documents from the German Press Department, which were transferred to the Federal Archives in 1969 as part of the land consolidation with the Secret State Archives of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation. Some original RMVP files can still be found at the Hoover Institution Standford, the Yivo Institute New York and the Wiener Library London. Fortunately, all three institutions were willing to produce microfilms for the Federal Archives (5). In 1974, the Rijksinstitut voor Oologsdocumentatie Amsterdam (Rijksinstitut for Oologsdocumentatie Amsterdam) kindly handed over some original fragments of files to the Federal Archives. In 1946, officers of the French and Soviet secret services found films of about 35,000 documents that had been filmed in the RMVP and buried near Potsdam at the end of the war with the help of an American mine detector (6). The films were taken to Paris to make re-enlargements of them, and it is possible that they will still be kept in the French secret service. The Americans apparently did not receive copies because they had withheld from the French documents of other provenance found in the CSSR. Only incomplete information is available about the content of the films; it can be assumed, however, that not exactly unimportant files have been filmed. Archival processing The order and indexing work on the holdings was relatively time-consuming and difficult, as the order of the files was extremely poor. On the one hand there were no detailed file plans or other registry aids for the mass of files from the budget and personnel departments, on the other hand the file management in the ministry, which at least in its development phase was always deliberately unbureaucratic, left a lot to be desired. Especially during the war, when inexperienced auxiliaries had to be used more and more during the war, the Ministry's staff often complained about the inadequacy of the registries. The organisation of the RMVP's records management showed typical features of office reform (1): Registries were kept on a departmental basis, with each registry having a "self-contained partial list of files". The documents were stored in standing folders (System Herdegen). Instead of a diary, an alphabetical mailing card was kept, separated according to authorities and private persons. The reference numbers consisted of the department letter, file number, date as well as an indication, on which card of an order file the procedure was seized. All in all, the files of the Budget and Human Resources Department were in a certain, albeit unsatisfactory, state of order when they entered the Federal Archives. Numerous volumes from the other departments, on the other hand, were formed in a chaotic manner, possibly as a result of a provisional recording of loose written material when it was confiscated. These were often amorphous and fragmentary materials that lacked the characteristics of organically grown writing. So it was practically impossible to form meaningful band units in all subjects. In the case of some "mixed volumes" with written material on numerous file numbers, only the most frequent ones were noted in the finding aid book. Due to the high loss of files, no strict evaluation standard was applied to the files. The main items collected were volumes from the budget department on preliminary checks in the subordinate area and individual procedures for the procurement and management of managed goods for the purposes of the Ministry. Formal records of non-compliant positions in the business division and a number of unarchivalable documents from the Human Resources Department will still be kept for the foreseeable future for the purpose of issuing service time statements. It is not listed in this guide. Preparatory work for the indexing of the Koblenz part of the stock was carried out by Mr. Oberarchivrat Regel (1967) with regard to the files of the budget department on the Reich's own film assets, Mr. Ltd. Archivdirektor Dr. Boberach (1966) with regard to correspondence and the reference files of the head of the broadcasting department, Hans Fritzsche and Ms. Archivoberinspektorin Schneider, née Fisch (1966) for files of the propaganda department. In 2005, the inventories of the finding aids of both sections of the Reich Ministry for Popular Enlightenment and Propaganda were imported into the database of the Federal Archives via a retroconversion procedure. The data records were then combined in a classification. Despite the inhomogeneity of the traditions of most specialist departments, it was advisable to maintain the division by departments. (2) Within the departments, the structure was essentially based on file numbers and factual contexts. The file numbers used in the RMVP were - as far as possible - used as aids for further subdivision. The final step was the integration of the personnel files and personal documents from the NS archive (approx. 5000 individual transactions) and the former Berlin Document Center (approx. 700 transactions). The documents taken over are mainly documents from the personnel department (in addition to personnel files also questionnaires and index cards), theatre (applications, appointments, confirmation procedures) and imperial defence (applications in propaganda companies). The personal records also contain isolated documents on denazification from the period 1946-1950. Since a relatively large number of individual transactions from the NS archives were often only a few sheets, transactions that objectively related to one transaction (e.g. applications for interpreting) were merged into one file. The names of the individual persons as well as the old signatures from the NS archive can still be traced via the BASYS-P database. Both the files from the NS archive and those from the former BDC are not always filed according to the provenance principle. However, the files were not separated again. Most of the files taken over from the former BDC are personal files and questionnaires as well as personnel index cards of individual employees of broadcasting stations. A search is still possible via the BASYS-P database. The procedures for the donation "Artist's thanks" still present in the personal records of the former BDC concerning the Theatre Department were not adopted in this context (approx. 15,000 procedures). From the point of view of financing and personnel management, they illuminate almost all areas of the Ministry's activities. From the specialist departments, the volumes from the Propaganda Department should be emphasized, which document above all the design of propaganda and the propagandistic support of foreign workers and resettled persons in the last years of the war. Also worth mentioning are mood and activity reports of individual RPÄ and suggestions from the population for propaganda and for leading the total war. In the Radio Department there is some material about the design of the radio program and the propaganda reconnaissance with reports about the opposing propaganda, which were compiled from the bugging reports of the special service Seehaus. A separate complex of this department are 14 volumes of pre-files from the RMI with handfiles of the Oberregierungsrat Scholz as representative of the Reich in supervisory committees of broadcasting companies in Berlin from 1926 - 1932. Of the film department there are only a few, but interesting volumes about the film production of the last war years with numerous ministerial documents. The majority of the theatre department's traditions are based on documents on professional issues and the Reich's dramaturgy. From the music department the promotion of musical organizations from the years 1933 - 1935 with pre-files from the RMI, the support and job placement of artists as well as material about the musical foreign relations is handed down.             This reference book is a slightly modified and, if necessary, corrected transcript of the distortion (including preliminary remarks) made by Dr. Renate Endler in 1957. The estate of the envoy Joseph Maria von Radowitz came to the Prussian Secret State Archives through two accessions (acc. 112/1933 and 339/1936). According to the deposit agreement, it was not allowed to be arranged and listed. It is therefore not possible to determine exactly what losses have been incurred as a result of the outsourcing and relocation caused by the war. There are certainly gaps in diaries and personal records. The stock, whose signatures were completely new, is structured as follows: It began with Radowitz's diaries and personal notes. The diaries begin with the year 1853 and are available with interruptions until 1909. Two copies of the memoirs are available. One is the concept of Radowitz's hand, the other one is a re-examined clean copy from another hand. Next comes correspondence, divided into correspondence with the family, alphabetical and chronological correspondence. The large number of available newspapers and newspaper clippings have also been sorted chronologically. These were mainly newspaper reports on the Algeciras Conference, which was held from January to April 1906. The estate of the father Joseph Maria von Radowitz (the Elder), which is kept here, may also be used for research. The estate was used by Hajo Holborn to publish the "Notes and Memories from the Life of Ambassador Joseph Maria von Radowitz", 1925. Berlin, November 2013 (Chief Inspector Sylvia Rose) Biographical data: Joseph Maria von Radowitz was born on 19.5.1839 in Frankfurt/Main, where his father worked as Prussian military representative for the German Confederation. His mother, Maria von Radowitz, was a born Countess von Voß. Radowitz attended grammar schools in Berlin and Erfurt, where the family took up permanent residence after his father retired. After studying at the universities of Berlin and Bonn and completing his military service, Radowitz became an auscultator at the Court of Appeal on 25 April 1860. He was first employed at the City Court in Berlin in the Department of Investigative Matters and later at the District Court in Erfurt. In 1861 Radowitz, supported by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Baron of Schleinitz, and other friends of the family, entered the diplomatic career. He became attaché to the Prussian legation in Constantinople. In 1862, when he returned to Berlin, Radowitz passed the Legation Secretary Examination. After a mission led by Count Eulenburg concluded contracts with China, Japan and Siam in 1859, a Prussian Consulate General was to be established in China in 1862. Radowitz applied to be employed as a delegation secretary at this consulate and was accepted because the other candidates for the position of delegation secretary refused the mission to China. He served in Shanghai until November 1864, and in May 1865 Radowitz was appointed 2nd Legation Secretary in Paris, a post he held until 1867, with an interruption due to his participation in the war of 1866. The next stations in Radowitz's career were Munich and Bucharest, where he served as Consul General. In Munich he married Nadine von Ozerow, the daughter of the Russian envoy to Bavaria (1868). From 1872 to 1880, Radowitz was employed in the Federal Foreign Office, with appointments as ambassador in Athens (25 June 1874), the mission to Petersburg (1875), the Berlin Congress (1878) and the mission to Paris (1880). After his stay in Athens, Radowitz was appointed ambassador of the German Reich in Constantinople in 1882 (until 1892) and subsequently in Madrid, where he remained until 1908, when he retired from diplomatic service. In 1906, together with Count von Tattenbach, he was the German representative at the Algeciras Conference, which was held from January to April 1906.             History of the authorities: The institution of the public prosecutor developed in Baden according to the French model since 1831 and was fully developed until 1845. The main task of the public prosecutor's offices was to investigate punishable acts according to the principle of legality, to bring charges if necessary and to make the evidence available to the court. In addition, they initially also had tasks in the field of voluntary (guardianship matters) and contentious jurisdiction (inheritance and incapacitation matters). As a consequence of the Reichsjustizgesetze of 1879, however, they lost their tasks in the area of voluntary jurisdiction. As a rule, the public prosecutor's offices at the district courts also performed the duties of the district attorneys at the district courts. The Freiburg public prosecutor's office had had a branch in Lörrach since 1919; it was closed in 1931, but reestablished three years later in 1934. Inventory history: The newly formed inventory A 40/1 - Public Prosecutor's Office Freiburg consists of various inventories and parts. The documents of the Freiburg public prosecutor's office previously held under the signatures A 40/1, A 40/2, A 40/3 and A 40/4 were brought together by way of systematic stocktaking by the higher authorities of the judiciary. In addition, in the more recent deliveries of the public prosecutor's offices in Freiburg and Lörrach, the documents that had been created before 1945 were determined and also assigned to the existing holdings. The allocation criterion was the file number assigned by the public prosecutor's office. Thus extensive documents from the holdings F 176/1, F 176/3, F 176/6, F 176/13, F 176/14, F 176/19 as well as F 177/1 and F 177/2 came into the present holdings. He now unites all documents of the Freiburg Public Prosecutor's Office and his Lörrach branch that were created before 1945 and that reached the Freiburg Public Archives.             History of the authorities: By decree of the Reich government of 21 March 1933, a special court was formed for each district of the Higher Regional Court. The special court responsible for the Karlsruhe Higher Regional Court district was installed at the Mannheim Regional Court. These special courts were given criminal jurisdiction for offences under the "Ordinance of the Reich President for the Protection of People and State", which had been issued in reaction to the Reichstag fire of 27 February 1933 and which formed the legal background to the wave of arrests, particularly against Communists. In addition, the special courts were responsible for the offences according to the so-called "Heimtückeverordnung", which was cast into legal form in December 1934 under aggravation of the threat of punishment. Originally limited to purely "political" offences, special jurisdiction was extended in 1938 to include areas of "normal" crime. With a decree issued at the beginning of the war in 1939, any offence could be brought before a special court if "public order and security were particularly seriously endangered by the offence". New penal regulations also followed with the beginning of the war. The most important are briefly mentioned here:1. the "Kriegssonderstrafrechtsverordnung" of 17 August 1938 concerned the offences "Wehrkraftzetzung", "Wehrdiensttziehung" and "Selbstverstümmelung", which - depending on the severity of the offence - were placed under death penalty.2The "Ordinance on Extraordinary Broadcasting Measures" of 1 September 1939 punished the listening of foreign broadcasters with imprisonment, in severe cases with the death penalty.3 The "War Economics Ordinance" of 4 September 1939 punished black slaughter, food card fraud and similar offences.4The "Verordnung gegen Volksschädlinge" of 5 September tightened the penal provisions for property offences if the offence was committed "by exploiting the state of war" or "the healthy feeling of the people" "required" this.5 The "Verordnung zum Schutz gegen jugendliche Schwerverbrecher" of 4 October 1939 also made it possible to pronounce the death penalty against criminals who were only 16 years old.6The "Ordinance against Violent Criminals" issued on 5 December 1939 made it possible to impose death sentences for any type of capital crime.All these ordinances led to a tremendous increase in the workload in the Special Courts.Further Special Courts were therefore established, including the Special Court Freiburg im Breisgau from 1 November 1940, which was responsible for the Regional Court districts of Freiburg, Constance, Offenburg and Waldshut. The specially established public prosecutor's office at the Freiburg Special Court initiated more than 1,000 proceedings in the four and a half years up to April 1945. Of these, the records of 727 cases have been preserved. At the beginning of the 90's the documents were indexed with the help of the archiving program MIDOSA by ABM forces in terms of content and with a place and person index, and in 1996 made available to the users as finding aid of the state archives Freiburg the MIDOSA data of the existence were converted in the year 2005 into the MIDOSA95 format; the existence were revised even by the undersigned in the years 2006 and 2007 and provided with a subject index on the basis of the regulations quoted above. The data was then transferred to the archive management program SCOPE-Archiv of the Landesarchiv Baden-Württemberg. The stock was organized according to the crime scene, the alphabet of names, and the duration of the investigation. 2,427 order numbers in 20.4 m were now included in the stock.             History of Tradition The history of the Presidential Department The history of the Prussian government was divided into three or four departments, namely the Presidential Department (Department P), Administration (Department I) and Tax and Treasury (Department II). In the tradition of the presidential department two registry layers could be determined. The first layer distinguished between general files and special files with consecutive numbering. The files of this first layer were transferred to the file plan of the second layer, which was used since about 1905. The structure of the second layer represented the last state of order of the presidential registry. It consisted of 14 main groups, which roughly reflected the departments existing since 1852. Personnel files formed an additional main group. The respective main groups were marked with Roman numerals from I to XIV, the upper groups with capital letters. Only the E group, authorities and officials, in the main group I, sovereignty, was further subdivided. These bullet points are preceded by lower case letters. Within the main groups, counting was started from the beginning. The repertory of authorities in the presidential registry was designed for growth in the individual main groups, i.e. a number range was usually reserved within a main group of each upper group. From 1 January 1932, the administration of the general administration, the administration of the health service, the building construction, the interior and the district administration as well as some special areas was converted to the uniform file plan of the Prussian administration. This was based on decimal classification and replaced the thread-stitched files with mechanical standing files. In the presidential registry, however, the files were at least partially continued according to the old file plan. The repertory of the authorities contains notes on which files should be transferred from the current registry to the so-called ground registry, i.e. to the old registry, and which should be transferred to the archive. Some files contain the word "destroyed". However, these indications do not provide reliable information about the actual fate of the files. A reference to the transfer of the documents to the standing registry was found with some file titles (especially with personnel files). In various cases, files from other sections or departments or from previous authorities were included in the presidential files as previous files. Reference is made above all to the written material of the Royal Prussian Commissarius (cf. fonds Ho 231). Contents and Evaluation Principles of Registration Polish archivist Beata Waclawik from the Allenstein State Archives worked her way into the Prussian registry and file system within the framework of a scholarship from the Volkswagen Foundation from 20.4 to 15.8.1990. During her work at the Sigmaringen State Archives, she began the indexing of the presidential department. Their distortion performance flowed into the present repertory in revised form. When the inventory was recorded, the file references listed in the repertory of authorities were used as the basis for the recording. Nearly all file covers were also provided with a file subject, which largely coincided with that in the repertory. The file title was compared with the file content and, if necessary, modified and normalized. In various cases, files from other sections or departments or from previous authorities were included in the presidential files as previous files. If these were listed in the repertories of the sections and not marked with registration signatures of the presidential department, they were returned to the corresponding section. However, if they were integrated into the registration scheme of the Presidential Department, they remained there, even though they had not experienced any further growth in the Presidential Department. Laws and ordinances were not thrown out in principle. Maps and plans, as long as they were not integrated into the fascicle, were removed for conservation reasons and incorporated into the map selection. Areas and places that were no longer on German Reich territory after 1918 were identified, as far as possible, on the basis of their administrative affiliation when the file was created. The signing was done with the archival development program Midosa 95 in the years 1998 to 2000 by the undersigned. Holger Fleischer completed the final EDP work. The present stock comprises 16.1 linear metres (in unpackaged condition) and 895 units of registration, beginning with numbers 32 to 926. The numbers 1 to 31 are listed in stock Ho 235 T 2. For reasons of data protection, the 380 personnel files also contained in the inventory could not be taken into account for this online find book.             The Presidents of the State District of Baden: With the decree of the American military government of 13 July 1945, the emeritus literary scholar Prof. Dr. Karl Holl was appointed Chief President of the Landeskommissarbezirk Mannheim. His work remained limited in the first few weeks to Mannheim and the surrounding area. Karlsruhe was initially under French occupation. By reorganizing the French and American zones, the Americans extended Holl's sphere of competence to the Baden part of the newly formed state of Württemberg-Baden. On September 3, 1945, Holl was released in the course of an American denazification measure. On September 10 Dr. Heinrich Köhler was appointed. While the individual ministries of the state of Württemberg-Baden in Stuttgart communicated with the Württemberg authorities without intermediate authority, in the American zone of the Baden state territory the state district administration of Baden was interposed, with the exception of the organisation of the administration of justice, which consisted of five departments: President - Internal administration - Labour, social affairs and reconstruction - Cult and education - Finance. The documents of these departments were included in the files of the later Regierungspräsidium Karlsruhe. With the death of Heinrich Köhler on 6 February 1949, the time of a full-time state district president in Baden was over. The position of state district president was only filled on a provisional basis. In this function, Gustav Zimmermann initially held office until his death on August 1, 1949. Until January 11, 1951, Dr. Edmund Kaufmann also served only briefly as provisional state district president. He was succeeded by Ministerial Director Dr. Hans Unser until his death on 27 November 1951. The last president was Dr. Hermann Veit. The formation of the state of Baden-Württemberg in 1952 with the establishment of the four administrative districts unified the administrative division in the new federal state. Tasks and powers of the President: The individual departments of the state district administration were responsible for the specialist tasks. The President, who was able to intervene in the competence of the departments, reserved the right to participate in all fundamental matters as well as in the appointment and promotion of civil servants. In March 1947 the course of business of the presidential office was reorganised. President Köhler reserved the right to sign in draft and in execution all decisions of fundamental and political importance, certain decisions in personnel matters, all matters reserved by the President for signing, all lectures to the State Ministry and letters to the Ministries in Stuttgart. In 1950, the then President Dr. Kaufmann reorganised his competences and tasks within the Baden district administration. He stressed that he should be involved in all administrative matters of fundamental, political and financial importance. In addition, all personnel matters of fundamental or political importance were reserved for the President. The other competences of the President are resolutions of fundamental, political, organisational and financial importance for the district of Baden or which affect the business activities of all the regional district directorates, complaints of official oversight, draft budget for information, notification of budget overruns of a certain amount, representation of the district administration in its entirety, certification of subsidies in excess of DM 200, publication of the official gazette of the district of Baden. Structure and organization of the Presidential Department: In 1947, the Presidential Department was divided into two departments: Department 1: Head of Service, Presidential Affairs, County Council Affairs, State Ministerial Affairs, Representation Affairs, Legal Affairs, Presidential Staff, Motor Affairs, Press Affairs, Official Gazette of the County Administration, Correspondence on more important matters and those of fundamental importance from Department 2. Unit 2: Civil servants' and salaried staff's rights and collective bargaining regulations for civil servants and public sector workers (general), appointment and dismissal of civil servants and recruitment of employees, right to travel and removal expenses (general), State budget matters, factual and personal expenditure of the Bureau, co-administration of representation matters, disposition funds, certifications (legalisation of documents), special mandates of the President, deputisation for Unit 1.A slightly different picture was provided by the business distribution plan of 5 May 1950. The tasks of the Presidential Office were now divided into three units. Unit 1 was called "President", Unit 2 "Legal Unit", Unit 3 "Human Resources and Budget Unit". Traditional history: The written records of the presidential office of the president of the state district of Baden are always singular if they were created within the exclusive competence of the personally small presidential office, i.e. for representation matters, contacts with the press, approval of support, various honours and partly in personnel matters. A typical feature of a large part of the files is the numerous newspaper clippings that they contained, which served to inform the President. This collection forms a unique source for the immediate post-war period. Not only does it document the structure of the German administration in the North Baden area and the beginnings of the new state structure in the German southwest, but it also reflects the misery and the manifold problems faced by the population, administration and politics in view of the catastrophic consequences of the war and the collapse, and the way in which they were coped with. The registry of the president of the Baden district filed the documents in accordance with the Badische Amtsregistraturordnung by H. Fackler (1905). Conversion of the finding aid: The inventory 481 was ordered and recorded by Dr. Jürgen Treffeisen in the years 1991 to 1993. He provided the finding aid book with a detailed account of the history of the authorities, which is still valid and on which the abridged explanations in this finding aid are based, and a detailed report by the editor. The inventory was printed in 1997. The indexing data for inventory 481 were transferred to the software ScopeArchiv as part of the project "Conversion of old finding aid data" of the General State Archive Karlsruhe, which was carried out by Guido Fögler in the years 2006-2008, in order to be able to produce an online finding aid from it. The project was supervised by Alexander Hoffmann, who - apart from very little remaining work by the undersigned - also took over the final editing of the converted finding aids. It is likely that these are mainly individual donations from users and smaller purchases. The collection also includes digital copies based on original originals in private ownership. In January 2006, the postcards of Mrs. Gerlinde Mauer, a temporary worker at the Jewish Museum, were re-sorted, while the existing group sorting was retained. From March to November 2011 the motifs related to Worms and its immediate surroundings as well as the military postcards were scanned with 300 dpi in original size and described by Mrs. Ingeborg Abigt in Augias until February 2012. For this purpose, a new classification was developed based on the old one. In addition, more postcards have been added ever since. The collection is stored in 10 wooden boxes in the magazine, shelf no. 46. The focus of the postcard collection is on collected views of Worms sights and views of the churches. The collection also contains a large number of military and propaganda cards, as well as postcards relating to the Grand Ducal Family. One part is unmarked, another has been sent by post and is marked with text, addressee and stamp. Since these are already published pictures, the stock is released for use. Reproductions, however, can only be made for private purposes due to the predominantly unclear legal situation. Exceptions are postcards of the publishers Christian Herbst and Füller, which can also be used for commercial projects and publications, as the city of Worms owns the rights, and postcards older than 70 years and therefore in the public domain.             Curriculum vitae of Karl Fritz: Karl Fritz, born on 29 November 1914 in Pfullendorf as the son of a plasterer and a part-time farmer, was made possible by a scholarship to attend the grammar school in Constance. Immediately after graduating from high school, he completed his work service, which was followed by military service with the infantry regiment 114 in Konstanz and with the military district command in Ehingen an der Donau. From November 1, 1938, the day he joined the NSDAP, until October 31, 1941, he was an administrative candidate for the "upper middle administrative service" (including Überlingen, Konstanz, and Stockach), and from November 1, 1942 he was employed as a government inspector in various positions (including Karlsruhe and Sinsheim). From the summer of 1943 until the end of the war, he had joined the Wehrmacht and served in southern France. Based in Freiburg since October 1945, Karl Fritz resumed his administrative duties at the Ministry of the Interior. In 1952, he was transferred to the Transport Department of the South Baden Regional Council, where he retired in 1977 as a senior civil servant. Karl Fritz died on 29 November 1990 in Freiburg. Inventory history: According to family tradition, Karl Fritz, possibly inspired by the example of an uncle, began to "collect" contemporary historical material at an early age. Posters from the authorities in which he was employed were completed, and duplicates of posters and brochures were the main focus of his collection. This is enhanced in terms of content by the collection of banknotes, above all emergency money, which has been collected from all over the German Reich. The "Karl Fritz" collection (stock W 307), which had grown to 40 m, was donated to the Freiburg State Archives in 1993. An initial inspection revealed that not all the documents were worthy of archiving. In addition, the collection contained material that was difficult to include in the documentation profile of the State Archives. Extensive order work followed. First, the newspaper collection and the literature on contemporary history were transferred to the service library of the State Archives and - in the case of documents on military history - to the Federal Archives and Military Archives; then the posters were separated and the W 113 collection of Karl Fritz posters was formed. A number of posters of East Prussian origin were handed over to the Geheime Staatsarchiv Preußischer Kulturbesitz, some pieces of Berlin origin to the Landesarchiv Berlin. The same happened with the picture material, from which the present collection W 145/2 - Bildsammlung Karl Fritz arose, which was catalogued and digitised by Annika Scheumann and Martin Schittny.
