Some files and photographs of the Frankfurt China Institute (1924-1976, a cultural science institute of the university), its directors and staff, and a sculpture from its old holdings: a head (Ming dynasty, c. 1600). The initiative to found the institute was taken by a private foundation and its holdings were fed from various sources of other donors. A special relationship to the German Kiaotchou leasehold does not seem to have existed. The cultural contacts were rather made through the founder of the institute, Richard Wilhelm, who had studied in Beijing and whose advocacy for the cultural exchange of Germany with China honoured the Chinese government by providing the funds for the maintenance of the institute after his death in 1930.

She supervised the University, Adult Education Centre, Technical Lectures, General Lectures and Scientific Institutions. In 1933, the Higher Education Authority was merged with the State Education Authority to form the State Education Authority, which consisted of two departments: General Administration and Education, and Higher Education. The supervision of the Kunsthalle, the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe, the Hansische Hochschule für bildende Künste and the Volkshochschule was transferred to the Authority for Church and Art Affairs in 1934. Both authorities were subject to the newly formed Cultural Affairs Administration. In 1936 the State Education Authority and the Authority for Church and Art Affairs were merged to form the Culture and School Authority, which thus took over the tasks of the Administration for Cultural Affairs. In 1938, the higher education system and parts of the school system were formed into the school and higher education department of the state administration and the other tasks were transferred to the municipal administration. In 1945 the school administration was established, in 1947 the school authority with the following structure was founded: General Department, University Department, School Department. In 1971, the University Office was created in the Authority for Science and the Arts, which since 1978 has been called the Authority for Science and Research. Inventory description: Dept. 180/1 Heylsche Lederwerke Liebenau Scope: 260 archive boxes and 7 linear metres of books/standing (= 1104 units of registration = 40 linear metres) Duration: 1879 - 1975 Acquisition, history of the inventory Dept. 180/1 comprises the most complete company archive within the archive holdings of the Worms municipal archive. It represents the development of the Worms leather industry, especially in the period from about 1922 to the end of production after its discontinuation at the factory in Worms-Neuhausen in 1974. There are no losses during the war, cassations of the material, of which nothing is known in detail, were obviously limited. After the end of production in the Liebenau plant (Neuhausen, area Kurfürstenstraße, today the workshops and administration of Lebenshilfe Worms are located there), the inventory, initially operating as Abt. 169 (until its renaming in 1996), was taken over by the Worms municipal archives in 1974 in consultation with Mr Ludwig Frhr. v. Heyl, born in 1920. Until 2008, it was stored in a standing position (mainly file folders, cf. fig.) in the Adenauerring office building, Oberer Keller, with a circumference of 49 linear metres. When the files were selected for submission to the archives, a considerable part of the documents relating to the work (which in turn were mixed with Heyl's family archives) was separated from the parts handed over to the archives; this part was transferred to the municipal archives in 1997 as Dept. 185. The latter, a very rich and extensive collection, has been listed since 2007 and contains both company and private documents of the von Heyl family. It is essential to use the inventory to supplement the source material available here (cf. in future the preface to the finding aid book). The archive holdings of Dept. 180/1 did not have a clear internal structure at the time of its transfer and were first opened up or provisionally in 1993/94 by the student Mr Burkhard Herd in preparation for his diploma thesis on the leather industry, written at the University of Mannheim in 1994, from 1933 to 1945 (using Heyl-Liebenau as an example). Herd numbered the folders and staplers (approx. 650 units) and entered them (without running times and closer registration according to the usually available back titles) into an alphabetical list of topics, which was able to convey a very compressed first impression of the material with twelve pages. Herd's subsequent work (masch. 144 p.) includes a partial evaluation of questions of Nazi economic history using the example of the leather industry. In this form the stock was always to be used only very limitedly. In 1993, Volker Brecher last evaluated the documents for his study on working conditions in the leather industry during the Second World War as well as for the question of the use of forced labourers. In 2007, Christoph Hartmann presented an analysis of selected aspects of company development in the 1920s. Apart from that, the value of the rich source material for the economic history of Worms and the entire development of the leather industry has remained unused to this day, even nationwide, due to the fact that it has not been developed. From December 2007 to the end of February 2009, the entire holdings were completely listed by the signatory and entered into 'Augias'. In the process, a classification was developed which attempts to take into account the essential overdelivery characteristics and structures of the material. The material was successively brought to the Raschi House and is mainly stored here. The classification reaches its limits where (how often) the documents mix family-private affairs with company matters, where foreign business and domestic activities are intertwined (this applies to the entire field of correspondence) and the like. There have been relatively clear distinctions in the area of personnel and the activities of the company director in committees, chambers and associations since 1942 and 1949, respectively. Main focus and significance About half of the documents are divided between the time before and after 1945; there were probably no war losses. The value of the stock for economic historical research is to be estimated very highly. The main focus in terms of time was between 1922/23 (independence of the company) and 1962 (death of Ludwig C. v. Heyl sen.) or the end of production in 1974. At the end of the 60s the factory still employed about 400 people. Heyl'schen Lederwerke Liebenau in Neuhausen was taken over in 1901 by Cornelius Wilhelm v. Heyl through the acquisition of the shares and integrated into Heyl'sche Gesamtunternehmen. The goatskin factory, which has existed since the end of the 19th century (formerly Schlösser

<br />Scope: 306 titles, 51.2 lfm<br /><br />In this systematic group known as "State 2" there are documents on government action, the judiciary, the police, persecution, resistance, culture and education. <br />The basis here is also formed by the press cuttings collections of HWWA and IfW from the years 1918 to 1960.<br />Original documents can be found on the Reichstag fire trial, which the Research Centre acquired from the estate of a lawyer. <br />Interesting is also an extensive collection of student leaflets that were systematically collected at the University of Hamburg in the early 1970s. The holdings on the University of Hamburg were handed over to the Hamburg Centre for University History in 2011.<br />The Institute Archive of the Hamburg Centre for Contemporary History and its predecessor institutes, which is increasingly being used for studies on the development of contemporary historical research in Hamburg, is available for evaluation until 1974.<br />

In dieser "Staat 1" genannten Systematikgruppe finden sich Unterlagenzu Bevölkerungsstruktur, Wirtschaft, Finanzwesen, Infrastruktur, sozialen Gruppen und denbeiden Weltkriegen. Wesentliche Quellen sind umfangreiche Presseausschnittsammlungen, die im Original an die Forschungsstelle gelangten, als beim HWWA in Hamburg und dem IfW in Kiel ihre Verfilmung abgeschlossen war. Die Sammlung deckt den Zeitraum von 1918 bis 1960 ab. In einem DFG-Projekt wurden die verfilmten Ausschnitte (1908-1949) vollständig digitalisiert. Diese Datenbank wird jetzt von der SUB Hamburg als "Pressemappe 20. Jahrhundert" angeboten. Die Recherche erfolgt über die Länder- und Sachklassifikation des ehemaligen HWWA. Im FZH-Archiv liegen die nicht digitalisierten Originalsammlungen zur Bundesrepublik Deutschland aus den Jahren 1950-1960, deren Themenspektrum weit mehr als nur wirtschaftswissenschaftliche Fragestellungen umfasst. Sie sind vollständig in dieser Beständeübersicht ausgewiesen. Die FZH konnte ihre Pressedokumentation zu vielen Themen durch die Sammlung von Prof.Dr. Curt Eisfeld (1938-1945 stellvertretender Direktor des Kolonialinstituts ander Universität Hamburg) ergänzen. Die Unterlagen sind noch nicht vollständig eingearbeitet.Von besonderem Interesse könnte die vorgeordnete Sammlung zu wirtschaftlichen und politischen Problemen im Ersten Weltkrieg sein. Eisfelds Sammlungen zum Bankenwesen und zu betriebswirtschaftlichen Fragestellungen wurden 2012 an die Curt-Eisfeld-Nachlassbibliothek in Hamburg abgegeben. Im Bestand zum Zweiten Weltkrieg findet sich eine umfangreiche Sammlung von Zeitzeugenberichten, die das "Hamburger Abendblatt" 2004 an die FZH abgab. Dort waren sie im Jahr zuvor als Reaktion auf eine Artikelserie zum "Feuersturm" von 1943eingegangen. Sie dienten als Quellengrundlage für ein gemeinsames Projekt von UKE und FZH zur transgenerationellen Weitergabe von Kriegserfahrungen und sind für die weitere wissenschaftliche Nutzungen zugänglich.

Literature references to Adolf Grimme's estate papers, which largely reflect his entire life's path, reached the Secret State Archives in several stages. A first very small part (approx. 0.10 running metres) was already handed over by the Federal Archives in 1969 (according to a letter from the archive dated 26.1.1976), further parts were taken over directly by Mrs. Josefine Grimme from 1974. The last parts of the estate listed were initially deposited in the archives (Depositalvertrag of 20 June 1974). This deposit was converted into a gift by Mrs. Josefine in June 1981. The autograph collection created by Grimmes was sold to the GStA in 1981 (also by Mrs Josefine). The entire holdings have thus become the property of the archive. Sabine Preuß, then Heidemarie Nowak, under the guidance of Dr. Cécile Lowenthal-Hensel, took charge of the holdings in the Secret State Archives. Josefine Grimme herself also carried out the orderly work once again. In addition, she identified signatures and put together correspondence in elaborate work. The distortion was finished by Inge Lärmer and Ute Dietsch. The initial decision to waive the inclusion of notes in correspondence was reversed when the titles were entered into the database in consultation with the head of unit, Dr. Iselin Gundermann. All files which had to be checked again in this context, especially for technical reasons, were checked for the necessity of containing notes in the interest of use and supplemented accordingly. This applies in particular to correspondence with artists or with very high-ranking personalities - personalities of contemporary history - or files with contents that are valuable for scientific analysis. Josefine Grimme stressed in her letters (including a letter of 27 July 1980) that the files were "essentially still as my husband had seen them". The Grimme couple deliberately designed Adolf Grimme's own registry and archive. After the sources were taken over by the archive, the aim was therefore not to destroy the order laid down by Adolf and Josefine Grimme. When using the holdings, it should therefore be noted that - if available - the inscriptions on master folders, the inscription of folders or fascicles or inserted notes with a summary of the contents of the respective folders (i.e. "file titles" issued by Grimme[s]) should be retained as far as possible and set in quotation marks in the reference book, if necessary - as an offer to the user - explained by "Contains note". The Josefine Grimme collections (group 1.1.3) were started by Adolf Grimme and therefore also left in context. It was agreed between Josefine Grimme and the archive that "the files blocked by her husband at the time and all personnel files after 1945" would not yet be made accessible for use (letter of the GStA of 13 March 1975 to Ms Grimme). In principle, these blocks have been maintained until 2010, even in compliance with data protection regulations (in particular groups 2.5.4 to 2.5.6). In the find-book, especially in the Correspondence group, the number of pieces (not the number of sheets) of existing documents can be seen in the file titles. "K" means that (mostly partially) there are only copies in the correspondence (the originals are then mainly in the autograph collection, which contains almost exclusively letters to Grimme - group 6.4). Reference files that Grimme kept from his time as Prussian Minister of Culture until his time as Lower Saxony Minister of Culture were not separated; they are classified in the time of the beginning of file formation (Prussian Ministry). The possible overlaps between the individual groups must also be taken into account during use. Since Josefine Grimme formed the files for the correspondence herself (with her own portfolio, counting of pieces and often also sheet counting, as can still be seen from the portfolio captions), it was decided that later or in other contexts letters from the respective correspondence partner would be listed in the archive as an extra volume and would not be incorporated into the existing portfolios. This explains, for example, overlaps in the runtimes of the individual volumes with the letters of a correspondence partner. Grimmes also retained the grouping of letters from some of his correspondence partners with the same initial letter into the subgroup "Individuals", in some cases supplemented by the note "Insignificant", since the latter documents were of no importance to Grimmes in the context in which they were written. The authors of the letters may well be historically important personalities. No cassations were made in the archive. Tapes of Adolf Grimme's speeches and performances were given to the Adolf Grimme Institute in Marl by Mrs Grimme in 1979. IntroductionWilhelm Gustav Goeters was born in Rheydt on January 9, 1878, son of the cloth manufacturer August Goeters After studying theology in Halle, Greifswald, Erlangen, Utrecht and Bonn, he became an inspector at the Reformed student restaurant in Halle in 1902. After the Hablitation on the topic "The Preparation of Pietism in the Reformed Church of the Netherlands up to the Labadist Crisis of 1670" he was appointed professor of church history at the University of Bonn in 1913.1914-1918 he served as field preacher and divisional pastor. An honorary professor since 1919, Goeters was finally appointed to a full chair in 1931. The publication of 1913 remained his only monograph. He remained painfully aware of his real writer's block. In the church-political conflicts of 1933, the former DNVP member Goeters soon oriented himself towards the moderate BK circles. In 1934 Goeters was the only Bonn professor to attend Karl Barth's last lecture. In 1935 he was therefore transferred to the University of Münster as part of state coercive measures against the Faculty of Theology in Bonn. 1944-1945 he worked as a parish administrator in Brake in Lippe. 1946-1950 Goeters taught again in Bonn, where he died on April 17, 1953. From the 1920 marriage with Elisabeth Schrenk come five children: August Heinrich Cornelius (born 1921), Wilhelm Jakob Christian (born 1922), Bertha Susanna Mathilde (born 1923), Johann Friedrich Gerhard (born 1926) and Hermann Huldreich Albrecht (nee. 1928) Focus of the holdingsA first partial list of the estate parts stored by Hermann Schürhoff-Goeters, the youngest son of Wilhelm Goeters, was compiled by PD Dr. Ferdinand Magen in 1999 (see No. 11 and 12). Further detailed listings come from Schürhoff-Goeters himself, who evaluated the stock for his biography of his father published in 2007. Further documents, especially correspondence, were in the estate of Prof. Johann Friedrich Gerhard Goeter, who died in 1996, and thus already in the archive of the Protestant Church in the Rhineland. These were made available to Schürhoff-Goeters on loan for the work on his book. In 2007 he transferred the entire estate to the archive. The portfolio was processed by the undersigned in 2010/2011. The now 302 listing units give a good overview of all of Wilhelm Goeters' professional places of work and of his work for the German Reformed Church. For the intensive occupation of Wilhelm Goeters with Jakob Böhme and his apologists in the 18th-19th century (no. 177-185), the holdings 7NL 015 (Gerhard Goeters) with no. 683-799 are also of particular historical value.7 Among the foreign provenances (holdings group 12), the estate of Peter Bockmühl is to be emphasized (no. 280-290). Born in 1852, he served as pastor of Odenkirchen from 1892 until his death in 1923. Bockmühl published numerous essays, especially on the Reformed history of the Lower Rhine, including the memorial book on the occasion of the 300th anniversary celebrations of the first Reformed General Synod in Duisburg in 1610.
