Scope and content

[Station reports] Bock (Kikangala) with report about his accident and stay in Morogoro. Still suffering from the contracted headache. Arrival in Kikangala, unpacking Mrs Bock's crates. He resumed his studies of the language and progressed so far that it was now possible to preach in the local language. Bock holds church services in the local chief's yard in order to reach a larger audience. People don't come voluntarily to hear the sermons. Should the first Africans really convert, this would mean a complete break with their clan. Especially polygamy stands in the way of the conversion to Christianity. Finding out: With the payment of money for work in the mission the Breklumers even give the polygamy a boost! The school is only faltering, the children are needed by the parents for field work. Hope that the chief will attend classes in the future so that his subjects will follow him. The start of a boarding school is made, a released slave boy and an orphan girl are the first boarders. Construction of a school building is necessary. Bock's medical work creates a trusting link between missionaries and Africans rather than the missionary work itself. The district office has given the order to fence the mission area with barbed wire. But the missionaries resisted, among other things because the costs would be unbearable. Report on the choice of a new site: The selected area is located near a sacred grove of African ancestral offerings. . Bock finds it pietätslos to considerations to deforest this. Therefore another place must be looked for.
