              Das Stadtarchiv verwaltet das Archivgut der Stadtverwaltung Göttingen und der eingemeindeten Ortschaften. Zu den Archivbeständen gehören ca. 4.500 lfdm Urkunden, Briefe, Amtsbücher und Akten vom 13. Jahrhundert an bis in die Gegenwart. Das Stadtarchiv besitzt auch eine fast vollständige Reihe aller Göttinger Zeitungen sowie bedeutende Sammlungen von studentischen Stammbüchern des 18. und 19. Jahrhunderts, Autographen, Plakaten und Karten/Plänen. Außerdem gehören zu den Beständen des Stadtarchivs Deposita, Nachlässe und Sammlungen, die von Göttinger Personen, Firmen oder Vereinen stammen. Ergänzt werden die Archivbestände durch die Archivbibliothek, die wohl die umfangreichste Sammlung zur Stadtgeschichte darstellt.
