History of the Inventory Designer: On January 24, 1934, Hitler commissioned Alfred Rosenberg to supervise the entire intellectual and ideological training and education of the Party and all its affiliated associations as well as the work "Kraft durch Freude" (cf. National Socialist Party Correspondence, January 31, 1934). The office set up for this purpose was briefly called "Amt Rosenberg".
Attempts to specify the contours of its competence and to develop a National Socialist "science doctrine" were ultimately unsuccessful. The Reichsarbeitsgemeinschaft für die Schulung der gesamte Bewegung as well as the Parteiamtliche Reichsarbeitsgemeinschaft für deutsche Volkskunde were directly subordinated to the "Representative of the Führer for the Supervision of the entire intellectual and ideological training and education of the NSDAP (DBFU)"; he "supervised" the Reichsstelle zur Förderung des deutschen Schrifttums and the Reichsbund für deutsche Vorgeschichte (cf. NS 15/188). In June 1937, on the basis of an agreement between Rosenberg and Ley, the NS cultural community was integrated into the NS community "Kraft durch Freude" (strength through joy) (cf. NS 15/155).
Abbreviations
APA Foreign Polish Office of the NSDAP
DAF German Labour Front
DBFU The Führer's Commissioner for Monitoring the Entire Spiritual and Ideological Education of the NSDAP
DNB Deutsches Nachrichtenbüro
ERR Einsatzstab Reichsleiter Rosenberg
HJ Hitlerjugend
KdF Kraft durch Freude (NS-Community)
NPEA National Political Educational Institutions
NS National Socialist
NSD National Socialist German(s) ...; NSPrinted matter
NSDAP National Socialist German Workers' Party
NSKK National Socialist Motorists' Corps
NSLB National Socialist Teachers' Association
NSRL National Socialist Reichsbund für Physical education exercises
RAD Reichsarbeitsdienst
RSF Reichsstudentenführung
RSHA Reichssicherheitshauptamt
SA Sturmabteilungen
SD Sicherheitsdienst
SS Schutzstaffeln

Description of stock: The documents that have been included in the NS 15 inventory essentially consist of the following complexes: Return of files of the DBFU by the Federal Records Center in Alexandria /Va. (October 1959); return of documents from the Rosenberg division by the Federal Records Center (March 1963); files from a Document Center collection (September 1962), which were initially assigned to the Reichsorganisationsleiter of the NSDAP; documents from the NS mixed holdings.
From the holdings of 62 Di 1 offices Rosenberg kept in the former Central State Archives of the GDR (ZStA), which primarily contained files from the activities of the DBFU and the APA, which were confiscated by the Red Army after the end of the war and returned by the Soviet Union at the end of the 1950s, the holdings received a larger increase in 1998.
Further files were taken over in 2004 from the so-called "NS Archive of the Ministry of State Security".
Archive processing
The index of finds that emerged as a result of development work carried out over many years was revised by Dr. Edgar Büttner in 1993 and converted into index form. In 1998 Matthias Meissner recorded the files of the DBFU division from the Potsdam stock 62 Di 1; on this basis a further finding aid book was created in 2000. In 2004, previously unrecorded documents (apparently from American repatriations) as well as those from the so-called "NS Archive of the Ministry of State Security" were assigned to the holdings and recorded.
citation method
BArch NS 15/ ...

content characterization: In addition to files from the Central Office, the holdings primarily contain documents from the Office of Art Conservation. While the files of the Main Office for Music deal with the observation and influence of musical life, including music literature, the extensive documents of the Polish Cultural Archive document the cultural work in the divisions and associations of the NSDAP. In this context, numerous expert reports have been produced on persons who were to be employed in the Volksbildungswerk of the DAF. The tradition of the Office of Science is also meaningful. Worth mentioning here are not only the files of the DBFU on "university policy", which contain assessments of university teachers in connection with appointments and appointments. An insight into the intellectual and cultural life of the time, including the bizarre, is also provided by the series "Scientists, private scholars and writers and their works", in which correspondence, submissions, expert opinions and press cuttings are collected. Those volumes which contain expert and political opinions on scientists, writers, composers and other culturally active persons were indexed separately by a person index. In preparation for the online find book, the names (usually with page numbers) were assigned to the respective volumes as contain notes. The tradition of the Office for World Descriptive Information, which consists to a considerable extent of information material on the situation of the churches in Germany and abroad (including numerous newspaper clippings), is also not insignificant.
Only a few documents have survived from the "High School in Preparation"; these include, in particular, those of the Institute for Research on the Jewish Question, primarily country reports on Judaism abroad, as well as various manuscripts.

Condition of indexing: Findbuch (1993, 2000), Online-Findbuch (2004).

Quotes: BArch NS 15/...
