Bestandsbeschreibung: 1920 wurde der Attachédienst im wesentlichen aufgelöst. Zwischen 1920 und 1933 waren keine Marineattachés an den deutschen Botschaften im Ausland notifiziert. Von 1933 bis 1945 entsandte die Kriegsmarine wieder Marineattachés zu den wichtigsten Botschaften. Die Masse der Akten der Marineattachés 1933 bis 1945 befindet sich noch bei der britischen Admiralität in London. In Form von Mikrofilmen liegen im Bundesarchiv Unterlagen des Marineattachés in Madrid sowie Aktensplitter aus Tokio, Moskau und Oslo vor. Inhaltliche Charakterisierung: Von den kaiserlichen Marineattachés sind in nennenswertem Umfang lediglich Akten des Attachés in Sofia aus dem 1. Weltkrieg überliefert. Die Überlieferung für die einzelnen Marineattaches ab 1933 ist sehr unterschiedlich. Während für einzelne Attachés, z.B. Washington, keine Archivalien in dem Bestand überliefert sind, sind für andere, z.B.
